The media in Spain often show very uneven attention to the problems of other countries.<\/p>\n
When the conservatives of the Prawo i Sprawiedliwo\u015b\u0107 (PiS) party were in government<\/strong>, news about Poland was as frequent as it was manipulated. Reading some media gave the impression that Poland was under a terrible dictatorship. This media campaign fuelled a campaign by Von der Leyen's European Commission against Poland<\/strong>, claiming that it was to defend the \"rule of law\" but launching harsh attacks against the government of that country for rejecting abortion and gender ideology.<\/p>\n That campaign suddenly came to an end with the arrival of the centre-left government of Donald Tusk,<\/strong> president of the Platforma Obywatelska (PO), the main Polish partner of the European People's Party. Without a single legislative change,<\/strong> Von der Leyen withdrew her sanctions against Poland simply because of the change of government,<\/a> and has maintained them despite attacks on the rule of law by the Tusk government,<\/a> which began shortly after coming to power. Suddenly, many foreign media outlets have lost all interest in current events in Poland<\/strong>, and are now blatantly covering up the abuses of the Tusk government.<\/p>\n This indifference is reaching astonishing extremes. This morning I published here that The president of the Polish Constitutional Court has accused Donald Tusk of staging a 'coup d'\u00e9tat'<\/a>. This news appeared yesterday in the Polish media and has also appeared in The European Conservative<\/a>, among other foreign media. At the time of publishing these lines, in Spain this information has only appeared on two websites<\/a>, and one of them is Counting Stars<\/strong>, which was the first to publish it this morning. None of the major Spanish media have published anything about it.<\/strong><\/p>\n Many people believe that we live in an \"information society\" and that it is impossible to hide a relevant fact from the public today, but it is alarming to see how a very serious event in another European country can go almost unnoticed in Spain<\/strong>, simply because many media outlets are no longer interested in reporting on what is happening in Poland for ideological reasons: politicians who were viewed favourably by many media outlets now govern there and that is why they look the other way<\/strong>.
