SOS La Rioja received the notice at 9:36 p.m. <strong>A NH-90 helicopter crashed into the side of a mountain near the N-111 highway<\/strong>, 30 kilometers from the city of Logro\u00f1o. Viajaban cuatro militares: tres salieron ilesos y uno con una fractura en una pierna, por lo que est\u00e1 hospitalizado.<br \/>Informa: David Marcotegui <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/B1HnU898Ir\">pic.twitter.com\/B1HnU898Ir<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; RTVELaRioja (@RTVELaRioja) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RTVELaRioja\/status\/1892526119166837065?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 20, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script> <\/p>\n<p><strong>The crashed aircraft belongs to the Third Maneuver Helicopter Battalion (BHELMA III)<\/strong>, based in Agoncillo (La Rioja), and was making a training flight with night vision goggles in the Sierra de Cameros. <strong>The causes of the accident are currently unknown.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54340504998_a508dcee33_3k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54340504998_07d33a0c7c_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>At the time of the crash, the helicopter was carrying four crew members.<\/strong> Three were unharmed and one suffered a broken leg. He was hospitalised awaiting surgery. <strong>In this photo from Efe we \u200b\u200bcan see the NH-90 on the side of the mountain<\/strong> and a FAMET H135 helicopter flying over the area.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54340496084_37a13041d0_k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54340496084_642012b7cc_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In this other photo from Efe we \u200b\u200bcan see the helicopter in more detail (click on the image to enlarge it). <strong>The aircraft overturned on its right side, so the main rotor must have been seriously damaged.<\/strong> Significant damage can also be seen on the tail.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54340496064_13e511b611_3k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54340496064_80762b32d5_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In this screenshot from the RTVE La Rioja video we can see that <strong>the helicopter had its landing gear deployed, so it is possible that the pilot had tried to make an emergency landing<\/strong>. The tail appears to be twisted, judging by the position of the stabilizer. The tail rotor is also likely to have been damaged.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54339381007_fada7d22df_3k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54339381007_6ce3b28506_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In this other capture from the RTVE La Rioja video we can see in more detail <strong>the damage to the tail and the broken tree branches near the helicopter<\/strong>, probably as a consequence of the sudden descent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There are currently 15 NH-90s in operation for BHELMA III<\/strong>. The Army received its first NH-90 in December 2014. It has ordered a fleet of 26 units and deliveries continue. <strong>This is the first accident of the NH-90 in Spain.<\/strong> According to <a href=\"https:\/\/asn.flightsafety.org\/wikibase\/type\/NH90\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Flightsafety.org<\/a>, this model has suffered 13 accidents since 2008. The operator with the most accidents has been the Australian Army, with three helicopters lost and four crew members killed.
