In this matter, I think it is fair to be precise when pointing out the countries most addicted to these imports, since <strong>not all of Europe buys Russian gas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>To determine the figures, a very useful source is the <a href=\"https:\/\/ieefa.org\/european-lng-tracker\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">European LNG Tracker<\/a> of the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), but it has a drawback: <strong>it only refers to liquefied natural gas<\/strong>, so it exclusively collects data from countries with access to the sea, so I have had to search for the information through different means, which I will indicate below. <strong>The data corresponding to 2024 are the following<\/strong> (I limit myself to indicating the data relating to member countries of the European Union):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>France: 8.49 billion cubic meters<\/strong> through imports of liquefied natural gas, according to IEEFA data. <strong>Russia is its second largest supplier of this gas<\/strong>, with 34% of total imports.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Austria: 7 billion cubic metres<\/strong> via pipelines, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enerdata.net\/publications\/daily-energy-news\/omv-austria-terminates-its-gas-import-contract-russias-gazprom-export.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Enerdata<\/a>. It is one of the European countries most dependent on Russian gas: <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/3JXyw\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">83% of the gas it consumes comes from Russia<\/a>. Russian gas supplies to Austria were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.osw.waw.pl\/en\/publikacje\/analyses\/2024-12-02\/austria-end-direct-gas-supplies-gazprom\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stopped<\/a> by the Russian gas company Gazprom on 16 November. The issue has become a topic of political debate in the country. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ots.at\/presseaussendung\/OTS_20250103_OTS0006\/fpoe-steger-zulassen-des-ukrainischen-transitstopps-fuer-russisches-gas-ist-naechster-teuerungsanschlag-auf-die-buerger\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The FP\u00d6 party wants to resume imports of Russian gas.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Spain: 6.38 billion cubic meters<\/strong> through imports of liquefied natural gas, according to IEEFA data. <strong>Russia is its largest supplier of this gas<\/strong>, with 35% of total imports. It should be noted that while it imports Russian gas, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2022\/10\/11\/sanchez-increases-the-purchase-of-russian-gas-while-prohibiting-its-extraction-in-spain\/\">the government of Pedro S\u00e1nchez prohibits the extraction of natural gas in Spain<\/a>, despite the fact that its resources could supply natural gas to Spain for 40 years.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Germany: 5.66 billion cubic meters<\/strong> of LNG, according to Kpler data published by <a href=\"https:\/\/tvpworld.com\/84731893\/ngos-call-out-state-owned-german-firm-over-sixfold-increase-of-russian-gas-imports\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TVP World<\/a>. It should be noted that Germany\u2019s imports of Russian gas are not reflected in the IEEFA report because much of that gas comes from imports from other European countries to Russia.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hungary: 4.5 billion cubic metres<\/strong> via pipeline, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/europe\/hungary-says-eu-not-doing-enough-end-russian-gas-dependence-2024-09-18\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reuters<\/a>. <strong>Two-thirds of Hungary's gas imports come from Russia.<\/strong> Far from reducing its dependence on Russia, Viktor Orb\u00e1n's government is seeking to increase it: <a href=\"https:\/\/balkaninsight.com\/2024\/12\/11\/hungary-turns-itself-into-hub-for-russian-gas\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">it plans to import 6.7 billion cubic metres in 2025<\/a>, which would put it ahead of Spain and Germany. The paradox is that <a href=\"https:\/\/g7.hu\/kozelet\/20241017\/erthetetlen-hogy-mire-kell-a-szijjarto-altal-szerzett-orosz-gaz\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hungary is buying more Russian gas than it needs<\/a>, taking advantage of an agreement with the Russian state-owned company Gazprom. It should be noted that <strong>Hungary is the only country on this list that has not sent any military aid to Ukraine.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Belgium: 3.55 billion cubic meters<\/strong> through imports of liquefied natural gas, according to IEEFA data. <strong>Russia is its largest supplier of this gas<\/strong>, with 44% of total imports.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Slovakia: 3 billion cubic meters<\/strong> via pipeline, according to data from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pipeline-journal.net\/news\/slovakia-starts-receiving-russian-gas-turkstream-after-ukraine-transit-halt\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pipeline Technology Journal<\/a>.
