{"id":58990,"date":"2025-03-16T12:14:10","date_gmt":"2025-03-16T11:14:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/?p=58990"},"modified":"2026-03-16T00:20:53","modified_gmt":"2026-03-15T23:20:53","slug":"trumps-disservice-to-conservatives-in-other-countries-the-clear-example-of-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/03\/16\/trumps-disservice-to-conservatives-in-other-countries-the-clear-example-of-canada\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump's disservice to conservatives in other countries: the clear example of Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Donald Trump won the US presidential election in November with an \"anti-woke\" speech that captivated many. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/01\/07\/the-possibilities-of-a-union-between-the-usa-and-canada-and-its-historical-antecedents\/\">The possibilities of a union between the USA and Canada and its historical antecedents<\/a><\/rel><br \/>\n<rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/01\/06\/justin-trudeau-resigns-the-end-of-the-woke-nightmare-he-imposed-on-canada-is-near\/\">Justin Trudeau resigns: the end of the woke nightmare he imposed on Canada is near<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n<p>On the occasion of his inauguration, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/01\/20\/the-keys-to-the-revolution-of-common-sense-announced-by-donald-trump\/\">Trump framed what he called the \"common sense revolution\"<\/a> in terms that broadly echoed what many conservatives advocate, especially <strong>his measures to end the absurdities of gender ideology, curb illegal mass immigration<\/strong>, end \"green\" policies that harm the economy, and curb censorship on social media.<\/p>\n<p><strong>However, his foreign policy has ended up shattering the hopes of many conservatives<\/strong>, by adopting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/03\/01\/trump-a-treason-to-ukraine-and-the-west-that-many-conservatives-reject\/\">positions that largely align with those of Putin<\/a>, as we have seen in the case of Ukraine, but especially by <strong>turning his back on his European allies<\/strong> and -very especially- by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/donald-trump-greenland-annex-island-us-nato-china-russia\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">his statements in favor of annexing Greenland<\/a> (a territory belonging to Denmark) <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/trump-talking-making-canada-51st-state\/story?id=119767909\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">and turning Canada into the 51st state of the United States<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This crazy foreign policy not only undermines the trust of many allied countries in the United States, but also <strong>ends up hurting the electoral prospects of conservative parties in other countries<\/strong>, as many people end up identifying those parties with what Trump stands for. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/01\/06\/justin-trudeau-resigns-the-end-of-the-woke-nightmare-he-imposed-on-canada-is-near\/\">After nine years of Justin Trudeau's government, many Canadians were fed up<\/a>, and this was reflected in polls that predicted a Conservative Party (CPC) victory as early as the first quarter of 2022. <strong>The distance between the Liberal Party (LPC) and the CPC reached its maximum between November 2024 and January 2025<\/strong>, as can be seen in the following graph from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File:Opinion_polling_during_the_pre-campaign_period_of_the_45th_Canadian_federal_election.svg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Undermedia<\/a> that shows the results of various Canadian surveys in recent years.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54390140744_e95101a609_3k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54390140744_8d4a3aa000_b.jpg\" style=\"width:661px; height:auto; border:2px solid #252525;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"caption\">Polling trends for the 2025 Canadian federal election (Image: <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File:Opinion_polling_during_the_pre-campaign_period_of_the_45th_Canadian_federal_election.svg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Undermedia<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>However, <strong>since the beginning of 2025, that trend has reversed: the Liberals are making a major comeback<\/strong> and the Conservatives are losing more and more support. It's not hard to imagine the reasons, given <strong>the nonsense Trump has been spewing about a possible annexation of Canada<\/strong>. This nonsense has given the Liberals a boost, and they could now regain a majority in the next election.
