Some temples are in truly surprising locations, such as the <strong>Santuario della Madonna della Corona (Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Crown) in Ferrara di Monte Baldo<\/strong>, in northern Italy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54414703370_1d865274a7_k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54414703370_d746320141_h.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>This Catholic minor basilica is 774 meters above sea level<\/strong>, but its most striking feature is that it is attached to a huge rock face, Mount Baldo. <strong>It is documented that some hermits from the Abbey of San Zeno in Verona settled there around the year 1000<\/strong>, and in the second half of the 13th century, there was a church dedicated to Saint Mary of Montebaldo and a monastery there, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.madonnadellacorona.it\/es\/presentacion-y-historia\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the sanctuary's website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54414499749_32af17243c_k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54414499749_66d6696476_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>In the first half of the 14th century, this sanctuary passed into the hands of the Knights of the Order of Saint John<\/strong> (now popularly known as the Order of Malta), who maintained its ownership until 1806. <strong>The new one was built between 1625 and 1685<\/strong>, with the interior characteristic that the left side of the temple shows the rocky face of the mountain.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54414499754_a2c73136f7_k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54414499754_ffc0dbc6e6_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Gothic-style fa\u00e7ade of the church was completed in 1899.<\/strong> The eight-pointed cross of the Order of Malta continued to appear on the fa\u00e7ade. <strong>The spire-like bell tower was added between 1921 and 1922<\/strong> on the right side of the fa\u00e7ade.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54414697725_6986d4b6b2_k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54414697725_d89ddc4acc_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Between 1975 and 1978, the old church was renovated<\/strong>, a project planned by architect Guido Tisado.
