{"id":59174,"date":"2025-04-04T22:11:02","date_gmt":"2025-04-04T20:11:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/?p=59174"},"modified":"2025-04-09T23:38:58","modified_gmt":"2025-04-09T21:38:58","slug":"a-spectacular-assault-operation-by-polish-special-forces-in-the-baltic-sea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/04\/04\/a-spectacular-assault-operation-by-polish-special-forces-in-the-baltic-sea\/","title":{"rendered":"A spectacular assault operation by Polish Special Forces in the Baltic Sea"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Jednostka Wojskowa GROM (Military Unit GROM) is perhaps the most famous unit of the Polish Army worldwide.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2022\/07\/09\/silent-and-dark-this-is-the-grom-the-most-famous-of-the-polish-special-forces\/\">Silent and dark: this is the GROM, the most famous of the Polish special forces<\/a><\/rel><br \/>\n<rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2023\/09\/14\/msbs-grot-the-polish-ambidextrous-rifle-that-manages-to-rival-the-prestigious-hk416\/\">MSBS Grot, the Polish ambidextrous rifle that manages to rival the prestigious HK416<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n<p>Founded on July 13, 1990, <strong>this unit is the heir to the famous Cichociemni<\/strong>, the \"silent and dark\" paratroopers who formed the elite of the Polish Army during World War II. <strong>The GROM specializes in counter-terrorism operations<\/strong>, but can carry out various types of special operations. <strong>In addition to operating in urban and rural areas, one of its domains is the sea.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54430871374_37ffab554a_3k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54430871374_c79fa452b0_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In order to operate in the cold and volatile waters of the Baltic Sea, <strong>the GROM has a Combat Craft Unit<\/strong> whose purpose is to provide support to the unit's special operations soldiers in the aquatic environment. A few days ago, the Polish military daily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polska-zbrojna.pl\/home\/articleshow\/43492?t=GROM-walczy-na-Baltyku\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Polska Zbrojna<\/a> published an excellent report on <strong>a GROM assault operation in the Baltic Sea, a hostage rescue exercise<\/strong> that involved storming a ship on the high seas (the video is in Polish, you can turn on automatic English subtitles in the bottom bar of the player):<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"GROM: walka o Ba\u0142tyk\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kjvpMzYJ5cU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>The GROM is one of the most prestigious special operations groups in the world.<\/strong> Its level of training is comparable to the US DEVGRU and Delta Force, the British SAS, and Israel's Sayjeret Matkal. <strong>This Polish special unit was organized following the SAS model<\/strong> and has collaborated on joint operations with the US Navy SEALs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54430916543_b17e9e6d54_3k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54430916543_e794b2ed78_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the video, we see a vessel with a blue hull and white superstructure used in this exercise. It is not a civilian vessel: it is <strong>the Zodiac ship<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/zbiam.pl\/statki-urzedow-morskich-zodiak-i-planeta-otrzymaja-drugie-zycia-zdjecia\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">which was transferred by the Polish Maritime Authority to the GROM in 2021<\/a> to conduct maritime assault exercises. Launched in 1982 in Gda\u0144sk, it has a displacement of 751 tons and a length of 61.33 meters.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54429814157_1a55ab980c_3k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54429814157_ff27221994_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>For its naval operations, the GROM uses several types of surface vessels.<\/strong> The smallest are the Zodiac FC 470 Futura Commando boats, a very popular model among special forces from different countries. They are 4.7 meters long, weigh 1,250 kilos, and have a capacity for 10 people.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54431045920_8f58889537_3k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54431045920_c04135c76d_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The boats we see in this video are larger RIBs<\/strong>, specifically the Zodiac Hurricane. These boats are armed with 7.62 mm FN MAG M-240 machine guns in the bow.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54430664626_0a52e92061_3k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54430664626_89c997cf69_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition to boats, <strong>the GROM also has diving propulsion vehicles<\/strong>, ideal for underwater forays. These aquatic vehicles are used by the GROM and the Polish Special Forces Unit (Jednostka Wojskowa Formoza), the Polish Navy's equivalent of the US Navy SEALs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54430916603_05801d44f1_3k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54430916603_026a178766_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition to water vehicles, <strong>the Polish Special Forces have eight Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawk helicopters<\/strong>. We see one of them in this video.
