The Scottish Highlands are the northernmost part of Great Britain and have an area of \u200b\u200b25,659 square kilometers.<\/p>\n

To give you an idea, it's more than three times the area of \u200b\u200bthe Community of Madrid, which has seven million inhabitants. However, fewer than 240,000 people live in that part of Scotland<\/strong>, partly due to its mountainous nature and its cold, rainy climate. However, in summer, this area is in high demand by tourists, and one of the most popular destinations is the Isle of Skye<\/strong>, in the northwest of the Highlands.<\/p>\n

Skye is the largest of the Inner Hebrides.<\/strong> It covers an area of \u200b\u200b1,656 square kilometers and has a population of around 10,000. The island's capital and largest town is Portree<\/strong>, on the east coast. It only has around 2,300 inhabitants. This small town is especially known for its pretty and colorful harbor.<\/p>\n

One of the most spectacular sites on the Isle of Skye are the Kilt Rock cliffs<\/strong> (named after the famous Scottish kilts). These cliffs are located on the Trotternish Peninsula, in the northeast of the island<\/strong>, and are formed by an impressive wall of volcanic rock that reach a maximum height of about 200 meters. In this area, one of the most beautiful sites is the 55-meter-high Loch Mealt waterfall<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Another popular spot is the peak known as The Old Man of Storr<\/strong>, also on the Trotternish Peninsula. Its highest point reaches 719 meters above sea level.<\/p>\n
