The disappointment many of us have experienced with Trump is not the only one we are experiencing within conservative ranks.<\/p>\n
Duda: \u201cUkraine will also have to give in some way\u201d<\/big><\/p>\n I have been supporting Poland for years. It is a country I admire. That is why it pains me especially to read Polish President Andrzej Duda's statements to Euronews yesterday<\/a>, stating that Ukraine would have to make concessions on some issues to achieve peace with Russia:<\/strong><\/p>\n It has to be a compromise. That is, de facto, this peace should, in my personal opinion, come down to the fact that neither side will be able to say they've won this war, because both will have to give in some way. Well, Ukraine will also have to give in some way<\/strong>, because that's probably what will happen. To what extent? It's difficult for me to answer at this point.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n What the Polish president had been saying until a few months ago<\/big><\/p>\n Andrzej Duda is a member of the conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party.<\/strong> Like other conservative parties in other European countries, Duda's party is demonstrating a lamentable following towards Donald Trump<\/strong>, to the point that it seems to have forgotten what Duda himself has been defending until now. I will recall some of those statements. On February 22, 2022<\/strong>, when Putin had already announced that he would invade Ukraine, Duda wrote on Twitter<\/a>:<\/p>\n I just spoke with Ukrainian President @ZelenskyyUa. I assured him that Ukraine has Poland's full and cross-party support<\/strong> in the fight against the Kremlin's aggression. And that the inviolability of borders is for us one of the fundamental norms of international law<\/strong>. And what about Russia? Tough sanctions from the EU and NATO!<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n In late October 2024<\/strong>, in an interview<\/a> with the British outlet Sunday Times, Duda said the following about those calling for Ukraine to yield to Russia<\/a> in order to achieve peace:<\/p>\n If you\u2019re so generous towards Russia, why not give them a piece of your own land?<\/strong> Why should any sovereign country have to satisfy Russia? On what grounds, may I ask, does Russia deserve anything \u2014 especially someone else\u2019s territory?<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
