Before the funeral, the presidents of the United States and Ukraine had an impromptu meeting in St. Peter's Basilica. Zelensky announced this today at 1:18 p.m. CET, in a message on his Twitter account in which he showed this photo:

In that message, the Ukrainian president commented:

Good meeting. We discussed a lot one on one. Hoping for results on everything we covered. Protecting lives of our people. Full and unconditional ceasefire. Reliable and lasting peace that will prevent another war from breaking out. Very symbolic meeting that has potential to become historic, if we achieve joint results. Thank you @POTUS.

Let us remember that Trump and Zelensky had not met for two months, when the US president scolded the Ukrainian president at the White House for not wanting to give in to his demands. Of course, Zelensky is behaving like a statesman and as a great leader should, something that cannot be said of Trump. Today, at least, the House of God has served to host this photo between a Protestant (Trump) and a Jew (Zelensky), in a cordial atmosphere.

Following that meeting, Trump posted a lengthy post on Truth Social complaining about a New York Times article claiming that "Trump plays into Putin’s hands", which is rigorously true, based on the facts we've seen over the past two months. In his message, in addition to repeating things he has said before, there has been a change in Trump's discourse: a clear recognition that Putin does not want peace.

This is what Trump states at the end of his message: "there was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days.
