This Monday, Spain experienced an unprecedented situation with a nationwide blackout<\/a> that caused chaos in transportation.<\/p>\n

On the electrified railways, 35,000 passengers were affected by the disruptions to rail traffic<\/a>. Many of them were held up for hours. Many train stations also experienced extraordinary situations with thousands of passengers without accommodation. These situations were compounded by others, such as problems in many buildings with people trapped in elevators<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, the Military Emergency Unit (UME) stated<\/a> that its various units were put on alert minutes after the blackout:<\/strong> \"We are coordinating the support we have been receiving for requests for fuel and generators from the authorities.\"<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

According to the Ministry of Defense<\/a>, the UME assisted 7,117 people with 4,465 blankets, 1,612 food rations and 3,520 bottles of water<\/strong>. In addition, the Armed Forces have supported hospitals and other centers with the supply of 99,866 liters of fuel, 23 generators and 210 bunk beds<\/strong>.
