S\u00e1nchez's press conference took place Following the news of the resignation of PSOE General Secretary Santos Cerd\u00e1n<\/a>, following the revelation of his involvement in the alleged collection of illegal commissions for public works contracts, S\u00e1nchez appeared before the media with a funeral face and a mournful voice to present himself as having been deceived by Cerd\u00e1n<\/strong> and to express his \"enormous disappointment\" in him (the video of the press conference can be seen here<\/a>).<\/p>\n S\u00e1nchez has pretended to ignore Cerd\u00e1n's corruption and is avoiding resigning or calling elections.<\/strong> This statement lacks credibility, especially considering that he himself claims to have known Cerd\u00e1n since 2014. In the same vein he has displayed in the face of the Socialist scandals, and despite having apologized and announced a restructuring of his party's leadership, S\u00e1nchez has presented himself as the victim of a \"siege\" by the opposition.<\/strong><\/p>\n In his appearance, S\u00e1nchez insisted that he will not call elections before 2027<\/strong>, a call that even senior members of his party have called for. It is unusual for a prime minister besieged by corruption<\/strong> \u2014which directly affects even his wife, his brother, his attorney general, and the last two secretaries of his party's organization\u2014 to insist that he knew nothing and refuse to resign.<\/strong> Other governments in Europe have fallen for much less than this.<\/p>\n What's clear from all this is that S\u00e1nchez has decided to use Cerd\u00e1n as a firewall<\/strong> to prevent the manure from reaching the prime minister, but it's already too late. With all the corruption scandals surrounding S\u00e1nchez, it's ridiculous that he wants us to believe he knows nothing and bears no responsibility for it all<\/strong>.
