In English, both are translated as \"last\", but in Galician, there is an important difference: \"\u00faltimo\" refers to the most recent element in a series that can continue, while <strong>\"derradeiro\" is something that will no longer be continued.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This weekend, <strong>the Spanish Air Force held an air show to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Patrulla \u00c1guila<\/strong>, its fixed-wing aerobatic team, in San Javier (Murcia). Aerobatic teams from other countries participated in this event. <strong>I would like to post the entire video of this air show here<\/strong>, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bZ1-VmQDrbw\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">YouTube has canceled it due to a copyright claim<\/a>. It's a shame. Here you can see the recording by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@planestv\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PlanesTV<\/a> of <strong>the Patrulla \u00c1guila's participation in this air show, flying alongside a PC-21 and an F-86 Sabre:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Patrulla Aguila&amp;apos;s last ever performance with jets - Aire &amp;apos;25\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rQ5VyJpElGQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>This farewell to the C-101 Aviojet by the Patrulla \u00c1guila is certainly a sad moment<\/strong>, not only because 40 years of service for this aircraft are coming to an end and because of the nostalgia it provokes. <strong>45 years ago, the Spanish aeronautical industry was able to make the C-101<\/strong>, responding to the needs of the Spanish Air Force for a jet training aircraft. <strong>Since 2000, CASA has been part of the European conglomerate Airbus<\/strong>, which has allowed Spain to participate in projects such as the A400M Atlas and the Eurofighter Typhoon.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50864065652_788081d44f_o.jpg\" style=\"width:661px; height:auto; border:2px solid #7f7260;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">Artistic recreation of the Airbus AFJT in the colors of the Patrulla \u00c1guila (Image: Airbus Defence).<\/div>\n<p>However, <strong>the loss of autonomy of the Spanish aeronautical industry has had an adverse effect<\/strong>, as we can see in the replacement of the C-101 Aviojet by a Swiss aircraft (the aforementioned PC-21) and the foreseeable replacement of the Northrop F-5BM by a Turkish aircraft, the TAI H\u00fcrjet. <strong>There was a last attempt to make a Spanish jet aircraft to replace the C-101 and F-5BM<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2021\/01\/22\/afjt-el-ejercito-del-aire-y-airbus-ofrecen-mas-detalles-sobre-el-sustituto-del-c-101-y-el-f-5m\/\">the Airbus AFJT<\/a>, but it failed due to the lack of support for the project from Pedro S\u00e1nchez's government.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54591615870_fb7388c292_o.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">Artistic recreation of CASA AX.<\/div>\n<p>It was not the first time that a socialist government condemned a Spanish aeronautical project to failure. <strong>At the end of the 1980s, there was a Spanish fighter project,<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/elpais.com\/diario\/1988\/02\/29\/espana\/573087604_850215.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the CASA AX, of which the Air Force planned to receive 72 units<\/a> according to a news item published by El Pa\u00eds in February 1988. <strong>The project failed due to lack of government support.<\/strong> Thus, we find ourselves with the paradox that while Italy continues to manufacture aircraft such as the M-345 and M-346, <strong>Spain lacks an aeronautical industry capable of responding to this need<\/strong>, because our politicians are not interested in ensuring that capacity either. <strong>The Swiss and Turks benefit from this shortsightedness of Spanish politicians.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54432888110_163269d67c_5k.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54432888110_bcb631aa14_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">The C-101s of the Patrulla \u00c1guila on a flight alongside a PC-21 in April (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/redeyes_doraemon\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peng Chen<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>Thus, <strong>without CASA AX and without AFJT, the C-101 becomes the \"derradeiro\" 100% Spanish military jet aircraft<\/strong>. The last representative of a short saga that began on August 12, 1955 with the first flight of the <strong>Hispano Aviaci\u00f3n HA-200 Saeta, the first Spanish jet<\/strong>. A saga that ended because the different Spanish governments have not wanted to invest in defense enough to not lose the opportunity to manufacture our own training aircraft.
