One of the most widespread evils in democratic countries is so-called political corruption, but many seem to be unaware of what it consists of.<\/p>\n
Political corruption could be defined as the abuse of power granted by the people to obtain personal or partisan benefits through illicit means<\/strong>. In this sense, the worst expression of political corruption is not the mere act of stealing, even large amounts of it, in violation of criminal laws. Rather, the worst political corruption is that in which the abuse of power is dedicated to eroding and destroying the very foundations of democracy<\/strong>, with the aim of providing personal benefit to those who hold political power.<\/p>\n In Spain, we have seen many cases of corrupt politicians who have abused their positions to enrich themselves illegally<\/strong>. But there is a corruption more terrible than that, a corruption that perverts the very foundations of our coexistence and corrodes civic virtues.<\/p>\n A year ago, the Spanish left perpetrated the worst act of political corruption in the history of our democracy<\/strong> by approving an amnesty law for people convicted of serious crimes<\/a>, a measure whose only real justification, aside from the lies used by the government to disguise its real motivations, is that Pedro S\u00e1nchez needed the votes of separatist parties that perpetrated a coup against the Constitution in Catalonia in October 2017<\/strong>. A coup in which crimes of sedition, embezzlement of public funds and terrorism were committed, among others.<\/p>\n In Article 62, the Spanish Constitution expressly prohibits general pardons<\/strong>, which is why no amnesty had been announced in Spain in 46 years, as it is clearly unconstitutional. In fact, Pedro S\u00e1nchez and several of his ministers said that the amnesty was illegal and unconstitutional<\/a>, before it became the price set by the separatists to guarantee their support for S\u00e1nchez's reelection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
