This Monday, Adif, the public company dependent on the Ministry of Transport that manages the railway infrastructure in Spain, attributed the problem on that high-speed line to "a lack of voltage in the catenary", that is, the high-voltage line that supplies energy to the electric trains did not offer enough power for them to operate.

Socialist Montero invents a "sabotage" and blames a private company

This Wednesday, the first vice president of the government and Minister of Finance, the socialist María Jesús Montero, spoke of "sabotage" and pointed to a private French operator, Ouigo, one of whose trains was forced to stop for safety reasons. It should be noted that if there is a breakdown in the catenary, the blame does not lie with a railway operator, but with the company in charge of the infrastructure, which is Adif, which reports directly to the government.

The breakdown was caused by a train belonging to a state company dependent on the government

Finally, it was learned yesterday that this breakdown was caused by a Renfe train that dragged the catenary. Coincidentally, Renfe is also a public company dependent on the Ministry of Transport, headed by the socialist Óscar Puente, a very talkative man on Twitter but who in recent days has not published a single message to refer to this new railway chaos. While thousands of passengers were affected by delays lasting many hours, Puente was busy posting self-promoting messages from the government to convey the message that Spain is doing very well.

In April and May the government already resorted to the same hoax

This is not the first time that the Sánchez government has resorted to hoaxes to evade its responsibility for the deterioration of public infrastructure while successive corruption scandals erupt, which largely indicate where the money dedicated to keeping our railway network in good condition is going. Let us remember that the government already circulated hoaxes about possible sabotage to explain the great blackout of April 28 and the railway chaos at the beginning of May. In both cases, the sabotage theory, fueled by the government and aimed directly at the political opposition, turned out to be a complete fabrication with no basis to support it.

The PSOE corruption scandals and its relationship with Adif and Renfe

It just so happens that some of the corruption scandals affecting the government and the PSOE are directly related to Adif and Renfe. Let us remember, for example, that one of the defendants in these cases, Koldo García, was appointed director of Renfe Mercancías, a company where no one knew him. His appointment was made possible thanks to another defendant, the former Minister of Transport José Luis Ábalos, who was expelled from the PSOE a few weeks ago when he began to leak compromising information about these scandals to the party. Isabel Pardo de Vera, also charged in that case with embezzlement and influence peddling, was president of Adif between 2018 and 2021 and Secretary of State for Transport between 2021 and 2023.

---

Photo: PSOE.
