The 21st Congress of the Popular Party (PP) concluded yesterday amid much optimism following the favorable polling data.<\/p>\n
In the framework of this congress, on Friday the PP published the final version of its political report (see PDF)<\/a>. I've been reading it and there are things that sound very good, others that don't sound good and some that don't even appear<\/strong>, but the most striking thing of all I've read are some promises that correspond to clear non-compliance.<\/p>\n To summarize, I have formulated below ten questions for which I have not found an answer in that document<\/strong>, or in some cases a credible answer, because what appears in that report does not correspond to the actions of the PP:<\/p>\n 1. Will the PP repeal the abortion law?<\/strong> It is an aberrant law that considers the act of killing unborn children a \"right.\" \"Any woman who wants to be a mother or has doubts, especially if she is young, must be helped. We are going to defend life,\"<\/em> says the PP document. However, the PP has been openly defending abortion<\/a>. Two years ago, Feijoo said that the law was \"correct\"<\/a>.<\/p>\n 2. Will the PP repeal the euthanasia law?<\/strong> It's an aberrant law that deems some lives unworthy. \"We must defend life. We choose the culture of life,\" says the PP document (page 35), which also promises \"a better-equipped and more humane palliative care system,\" but doesn't even mention the euthanasia law.<\/p>\n 3. Will the PP repeal the \"democratic memory\" law?<\/strong> It's a law created to impose a leftist ideological vision of history. The document states that the PP will repeal it (page 17), but I don't believe it. The PSOE already passed a very similar law in 2007, the \"historical memory\" law, and the PP didn't repeal it<\/strong> despite having an absolute majority between 2011 and 2015.<\/p>\n 4. Will the PP repeal the trans law?<\/strong> It's a ridiculous law that allows men to register as women and access changing rooms, bathrooms, and other spaces reserved for women. On page 33 of the PP document, it states:<\/p>\n \"Equality does not consist of denying biological reality, but rather in guaranteeing equal opportunities and rights for every person. The gender self-determination currently enshrined in legislation furthers the erasure of women and creates profound legal uncertainty. In women's sports competitions, biological sex should determine categories.\"<\/em> <\/p><\/blockquote>\n These are words that sound very nice, but the document doesn't even mention repealing the trans law<\/strong>. Furthermore, it must be remembered that the PP has supported the \"gender self-determination\" that it now criticizes in seven regional laws<\/a>.<\/p>\n 5. Will the PP repeal the last socialist education law, the LOMLOE?<\/strong> It is a law that violates the right to freedom of education, but the document doesn't even mention it.<\/p>\n 6. Will the PP repeal the \"only yes is yes\" law?<\/strong> The aforementioned PP document states on page 33, and rightly so, that this law \"has reduced the sentences of more than twelve hundred rapists and pedophiles convicted in Spain and released more than two hundred\"<\/em>, but the document only talks about \"improving the regulation of types and penalties\"<\/em>: it does not contemplate repealing this law. Let us also remember that in December 2023 in Congress, Vox called for tougher sentences for rapists and the PP voted against it along with the left-wing parties<\/a>.<\/p>\n 7. Will the PP establish a law on linguistic freedom?<\/strong> On page 15, the PP document states: \"We will guarantee the constitutional right to receive instruction in Spanish at all stages of the education system and throughout the nation.\"<\/em> However, the PP has been breaking this promise in Galicia for 16 years<\/a>, where Feij\u00f3o betrayed his promise of \"linguistic freedom\" in December 2009, a few months after becoming regional president.<\/p>\n 8. Will the PP prohibit ideological indoctrination in schools by law?<\/strong> On page 24, the PP document proposes to \"prevent education from being a tool for political indoctrination\"<\/em>, but it doesn't say how. Let's remember that the PP and Feij\u00f3o himself have tolerated and promoted such indoctrination in Galician schools<\/a>.<\/p>\n 9. Will the PP promote the illegalization of Bildu?<\/strong> On page 17 of its document, the PP states that \"it has made a vital and unwavering commitment to the victims and against terrorism and its political heirs, which remains fully valid today.\"<\/em> Let us remember that in December 2023, Feij\u00f3o described<\/a> Bildu as \"a party that has murdered my colleagues.\"<\/em> However, the PP refused to support three initiatives calling for Bildu to be outlawed<\/a> in 2012 (from UPyD), in 2020 and in 2023 (from Vox).<\/p>\n 10. Will the PP publish the minutes of the negotiations between Zapatero and ETA?<\/strong> On pages 4 and 5, the PP document states: \"the current socialist leaders saw the far left, the pro-independence forces, and ETA's political heirs as their only chance to gain power.\"<\/em> This has not been solely the work of the S\u00e1nchez government: this rapprochement began under Zapatero's government<\/a>. In this regard, in July 2007 the PP requested the publication of the minutes of the negotiations between Zapatero's government and ETA<\/a>. However, when it had the opportunity to do so, Rajoy's government (the PP) did not publish these minutes<\/strong>. Why?<\/p>\n ---<\/p>\n
