It is located on the upper part of the left sleeve of field and everyday uniforms, the so-called zone G.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54651011158_2d059d0fb5_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54651011158_2d059d0fb5_o.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">The national insignia of a soldier of the 11th Field Artillery Regiment (RACA 11), based in Castrillo del Val, Burgos (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/elentir\/34846397022\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Elentir<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>Rule 123 of the Code of Ceremonial and Protocol, which was in force until now, indicated that the nationality badge must be placed \"with the upper side of the flag 30 millimetres from the upper edge\" and added: \"<em><strong>The textile rectangle will have dimensions of 56 x 26 millimetres<\/strong>, with the colours of the national flag, on a support of the colour of the uniform that will protrude 2 millimetres from its outline.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54650773111_5db1795dc9_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54650773111_5db1795dc9_o.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">The national insignia of a soldier of the Tercio de Armada (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/emad.defensa.gob.es\/operaciones\/operaciones-en-el-exterior\/31_Forward_Land_Forces\/31.3-FLF_Rumania\/noticias\/listado\/250116_eagle_thunder_1.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Estado Mayor de la Defensa<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>As El Confidencial Digital <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elconfidencialdigital.com\/articulo\/defensa\/bandera-espana-que-llevan-militares-hombro-sera-mas-grande\/20250708050000971772.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has pointed out<\/a> this week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boe.es\/buscar\/act.php?id=BOE-A-2025-2291\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Order DEF\/114\/2025 was approved on January 28th<\/a> <strong>with new uniformity standards for the Armed Forces<\/strong>, which was published in the Official State Gazette on February 7th, entering into force on the 27th of that month. <strong>The new Standard 123.1 introduces a new feature regarding the size of the national emblem:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\"<strong>The nationality badge will consist of a rectangle measuring 67 x 37 millimetres<\/strong>, with the colours of the national flag and coat of arms incorporated on a support in the colour of the uniform that will protrude 2 millimetres from its outline.\"<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>The small flag located on the left sleeve will be 11 mm longer and 12 mm wider<\/strong>. There is a paradox in these nationality badges, and that is that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2020\/08\/05\/asi-son-los-colores-exactos-y-el-patron-de-diseno-de-la-bandera-y-el-escudo-de-espana\/\">they do not reflect the official proportions of 2:3 of the Flag of Spain<\/a> established by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boe.es\/buscar\/act.php?id=BOE-A-1977-14944\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Royal Decree 1511\/1977<\/a>. When carrying the flag on the right arm, the U.S. Army mandates that it be displayed with the flagpole to the right, in a marching position (Photo: U.S. Army).<\/div>\n<p>It should be noted that <strong>NATO member countries do not have a standardized size for national insignia<\/strong>, nor is there even an agreement as to which of the two arms it should be placed on. <strong>In the US Army it is worn on the right arm<\/strong>, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/armypubs.army.mil\/epubs\/DR_pubs\/DR_a\/ARN30948-PAM_670-1-000-WEB-1.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DA Pam 670\u20131 21-19<\/a>, with a size of 2 x 3 inches (50.8 x 76.2 mm).<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54651019413_c88c1b9d07_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54651019413_c88c1b9d07_o.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">The national insignia of several soldiers of the Italian Army (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esercito.difesa.it\/concorsi-e-arruolamenti\/volontari\/VFI\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow\">Esercito Italiano<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p><strong>In the French and Italian armies, the flag is used in the form of a shield<\/strong> and is placed on the left arm, including the name of the country at the top. <strong>In the German Army, the flag is carried on both arms<\/strong>. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/augengeradeaus.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/20191217_A1-2630-0-9804_anzugordnung.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">code A1-2630\/0-9804<\/a> (page 112), this national emblem is used with a size of <strong>5 x 2.5 cm<\/strong>. The size is very similar to the national insignia used until now in the Spanish Armed Forces (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/augengeradeaus.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/20191217_A1-2630-0-9804_anzugordnung.pdf\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow\">Bundesministerium der Verteidigung<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>Until now, <strong>the nationality insignia worn by Spanish soldiers was similar in size to the German one<\/strong> (6 mm longer and 1 mm wider). This size allows the soldier's nationality to be displayed more discreetly. <strong>The Spanish flag has the great advantage of being very colorful<\/strong> (which is why the current design was chosen as the naval ensign in 1785), so even at a small size it is perfectly visible.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54650773106_6070954009_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54650773106_f6f5789a44_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">In the Polish Army, soldiers wear national insignia on both arms of their field uniforms (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wojsko-polskie.pl\/iwsp\/przepisy-ubiorcze\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow\">Wojsko Polskie<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>Like the German Army, <strong>the Polish Army wears its national insignia on both arms on its field uniforms<\/strong> (on everyday uniforms it wears the national coat of arms, a white eagle on a red background, on the left sleeve). Unlike in Germany, <strong>in the Polish Army the nationality badge is not sewn onto the field uniform<\/strong>, but is attached with Velcro, so it can be detached from the uniform if necessary (for example, to help a soldier avoid detection in certain combat operations). <strong>The current Polish nationality badge is wz.814\/A\/MON and is 55 x 38 mm in size<\/strong>, featuring the Polish flag and a black trim.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51668041631_7fd77b39e6_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51668041631_5e1fd4b0fa_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">Soldiers of the 18th Mechanized Division \"\u017belazna\" of the Polish Army, based in Siedlce (Photo: Ministerstwo Obrony Narodowej).<\/div>\n<p>After many years of being a size very similar to that used by the German Army, <strong>the new Spanish nationality badges will be closer in width to those used by the Polish Army<\/strong>, although they will be longer (67 mm instead of the 58 mm of the Polish flags). <strong>The new Spanish regulations do not specify whether these badges should be attached with Velcro or sewn.<\/strong> Nowadays, the most common method for Spanish field uniforms is to wear them with Velcro. <strong>Being larger, the flags will be more visible and may reveal the soldier's position<\/strong>, so the ability to remove them in combat zones will be even more important.<\/p>\n<p>---<\/p>\n<p><small>Main photo: Elentir.
