Without a doubt, one of the most famous genocides perpetrated by communism was the Holodomor perpetrated by Stalin's communist dictatorship in Ukraine<\/a> in 1932 and 1933 through massive grain requisitions, a starvation massacre that claimed between 3.9 and 6 million victims<\/strong>. It was one of the deadliest hunger genocides perpetrated by communists in the Soviet Union, but not the only one.<\/p>\n

Here I have already mentioned other mass famines<\/a> caused by massive grain requisitions in the USSR, such as the Kazakh Famine of 1919\u20131922<\/strong> (between 400,000 and 750,000 dead), the Tatar Famine of 1921\u20131922<\/strong> (between 500,000 and 2 million dead), the Kazakh Famine of 1932\u20131933<\/strong> (1.5 million dead). Colossal figures, but they pale in comparison to the \"Great Leap Forward\", the largest genocide by hunger in history, perpetrated by communist China between 1959 and 1961<\/strong> and with between 20 and 43 million dead<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In December 2022, coinciding with the 90th anniversary of the beginning of Stalin\u2019s Ukrainian genocide, the European Parliament passed a resolution calling the Holodomor a genocide<\/a>, urging all countries and international organizations that have not yet recognized the Holodomor as a genocide to do so, and calling on Russia, as the primary successor to the Soviet Union, to officially recognize the Holodomor and apologize for such crimes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The resolution was adopted with 507 votes in favor, 12 against, and 17 abstentions<\/a>. The drafting of the resolution portrayed many political groups. For example, the Socialists<\/a> and the left-wing Greens<\/a> proposed a more tepid alternative text that did not expressly state that the Holodomor was a genocide<\/b> nor did it call for its recognition as genocide by Russia or other countries and international organizations. Furthermore, the socialists' text criticized \"the instrumentalization of historical memory for political purposes\"<\/em><\/strong>, a display of cynicism if we take into account that that is precisely what the socialists in Spain are doing<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The results of the vote can be seen here (PDF, pages 85 and 85)<\/a>. As you can see, the vast majority of MEPs from the Left group, which brings together communist MEPs, were absent from the vote<\/strong>. Six MEPs from that group voted against, seven abstained, and nine supported it. Among those who abstained were the Spaniards Eugenia Rodr\u00edguez Palop<\/strong> (then in Podemos and now in Sumar) and Miguel Urb\u00e1n Crespo<\/strong> (he ran for office with Podemos and later switched to Anticapitalistas).<\/p>\n

That same left is now accusing Israel of committing genocide by starvation in Gaza<\/strong>, an accusation that is completely false and that distorts and omits relevant facts that I already pointed out here<\/a>, falsehoods and manipulations that clearly benefit the cause of Hamas terrorists, who have been stealing humanitarian aid that reaches Gaza for years. It is also the same left that avoids accusing Russia of genocide<\/a>, despite Russia's constant attacks against the civilian population of Ukraine, in a strategy of terror reminiscent of that of the Nazis in World War II.<\/p>\n
