{"id":60436,"date":"2025-08-04T23:32:53","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T21:32:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/?p=60436"},"modified":"2026-08-04T00:06:00","modified_gmt":"2026-08-03T22:06:00","slug":"for-the-first-time-german-fighters-will-operate-from-poland-on-a-nato-bap-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/08\/04\/for-the-first-time-german-fighters-will-operate-from-poland-on-a-nato-bap-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"For the first time, German fighters will operate from Poland on a NATO BAP mission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, which began in 1939 with the German invasion of Poland.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/04\/22\/a-luftwaffe-eurofighter-honors-the-most-famous-german-aviator-and-his-plane\/\">A Luftwaffe Eurofighter honors the most famous German aviator and his plane<\/a><\/rel><br \/>\n<rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2024\/01\/03\/the-polish-air-force-has-already-completed-its-fleet-of-new-fa-50gf-golden-eagle-fighters\/\">The Polish Air Force has already completed its fleet of new FA-50GF Golden Eagle fighters<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n<p>Ten years after the fall of communism, <strong>Poland joined NATO in 1999, making it a German ally today.<\/strong> This situation should heal the old wounds between the two countries, but <strong>the memory of the past is still very much alive in Poland<\/strong> (something that is understandable given the scale of the horrendous crimes perpetrated by Nazi Germany in that country).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54699376387_cf1f6b4a56_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54699376387_cc8627d2d4_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>NATO's Baltic Air Policing (BAP) missions began in 2004<\/strong> to provide air protection for the three Baltic states (Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia), whose small air forces lack combat aircraft of their own <strong>to counter frequent Russian incursions into their airspace<\/strong>. Germany first participated in a BAP mission in June 2005, deploying four F-4F Phantom II fighters to Lithuania.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54700532435_92bdeaf60c_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54700532435_7b2b68b9fa_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In response to Russia's illegal annexation of Ukraine's Crimea region, <strong>NATO began using Malbork Air Base in northern Poland in May 2014 to reinforce its BAP missions<\/strong>, which until now had only been carried out at \u0160iauliai Air Base in Lithuania (that same month they also began carrying out BAP missions at \u00c4mari Air Base in Estonia). <strong>Since 2005, Germany has carried out 15 BAP missions, but all of them were in Lithuania and Estonia.<\/strong> No Luftwaffe fighter jet has been deployed to Poland on any of these missions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54700436339_3d3a6d1f1d_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54700436339_d7b53960f2_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DowOperSZ\/status\/1952339268967313733\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command made a historic announcement<\/a>: <em>\"As part of strengthening NATO's collective defense, <strong>five German Air Force Eurofighter EF-2000 Typhoon fighters will be stationed at the 23rd Tactical Air Base in Mi\u0144sk Mazowiecki for the coming weeks<\/strong>. The aircraft will support airspace protection operations on the Alliance's eastern flank. <strong>This is another example of Allied cooperation and real commitment to ensuring the security of Central and Eastern Europe<\/strong>.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54700208631_4b648e9ca8_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54700208631_db08749836_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We are witnessing a historic moment that we must attribute, in large part, to the expansionism of Vladimir Putin's dictatorship. <strong>This will be the first time since World War II that Luftwaffe aircraft will operate regularly from Poland<\/strong>, but this time to protect the airspace of that country and the Baltic states from Russian incursions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53440776814_4582817ae8_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53440776814_7de0be78f9_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mi\u0144sk Mazowiecki Air Base, opened in 2001, is located in eastern Poland<\/strong>, in the Mazovian Voivodeship. The Polish Air Force's latest MiG-29 fighters operate from it, as part of its 1st Tactical Air Squadron.
