In democratic countries, the laws are equally binding on everyone<\/strong>. Or at least that's what should happen. Likewise, in all democracies, judges have a fundamental role: guaranteeing a fair trial for those accused of committing a crime<\/strong>, assessing the indications and evidence (if any), guaranteeing the accused person's right to defense and the presumption of innocence.<\/strong><\/p>\n For some time now, in Spain we have been seeing attacks on judges by politicians who do not respect democratic norms<\/strong>. This was what happened with those accused (and ultimately convicted) for their participation in the separatist coup of October 1, 2017 in Catalonia, an attempt to undermine constitutional legality<\/strong>. These attacks on judges were carried out by separatist and far-left parties<\/a> that, coincidentally, are today the parliamentary partners of Pedro S\u00e1nchez's government. With these attacks, the coup plotters and their supporters sought to delegitimize the judges and place themselves above the law<\/strong>, aspiring to enjoy an impunity that is incompatible with the very essence of democracy.<\/p>\n Yesterday, in an interview on Televisi\u00f3n Espa\u00f1ola<\/a> (a media outlet paid for by all Spaniards and which the government has turned into a propaganda organ at the service of the PSOE), S\u00e1nchez once again attacked the Justice system, claiming that \"there are judges making politics\"<\/strong>, in a clumsy and crude attempt to discredit those who are investigating the corruption scandals that plague the environment S\u00e1nchez's staff and his government<\/a>. This is the same S\u00e1nchez who came to power in 2018 presenting himself as a defender of regeneration against the political corruption of his rivals. S\u00e1nchez portrayed himself yesterday as the worst corrupt politician there can be: someone who believes he is above the law,<\/strong> someone who believes he should enjoy impunity and that in a democratic country the rules should apply to everyone except him and those close to him.<\/p>\n With this attack on the judges, Pedro S\u00e1nchez reveals his true idea of \u200b\u200bdemocracy, delegitimizing one of its pillars: equality before the law.<\/strong> This equality is what guarantees that whether you are an anonymous citizen or a ruler, the law must be applied to you equally and no one should enjoy privileges simply because they hold political power<\/strong>. S\u00e1nchez's idea of \u200b\u200bpolitics was already made clear a few years ago by copying the methods of the Venezuelan socialist dictatorship to control the judges<\/a> and, finally, presenting a bill - also copied from Ch\u00e1vez and Maduro - to grant himself and Spanish socialism total impunity to break the law<\/a>.<\/p>\n
