{"id":60853,"date":"2025-09-18T23:38:28","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T21:38:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/?p=60853"},"modified":"2025-09-23T21:04:19","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T19:04:19","slug":"nato-shows-how-an-interception-is-carried-out-and-real-examples-of-intercepted-aircraft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/09\/18\/nato-shows-how-an-interception-is-carried-out-and-real-examples-of-intercepted-aircraft\/","title":{"rendered":"NATO shows how an interception is carried out and real examples of intercepted aircraft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On September 12, NATO launched Operation Eastern Sentry in response to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/09\/10\/poland-points-out-that-russian-drones-repeatedly-violated-polish-airspace\/\">the recent Russian drone attack against Poland<\/a>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/09\/16\/wave-of-interceptions-of-russian-aircraft-by-spanish-fighters-in-lithuania\/\">Wave of interceptions of Russian aircraft by Spanish fighters in Lithuania<\/a><\/rel><br \/>\n<rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2023\/11\/20\/e-7a-wedgetail-the-new-radar-aircraft-chosen-by-nato-to-replace-its-e-3-sentry\/\">E-7A Wedgetail, the new radar aircraft chosen by NATO to replace its E-3 Sentry<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n<p><strong>So far, four countries have sent fighters to NATO's eastern flank<\/strong> as part of this new operation: Denmark (two F-16s), France (three Rafales), Germany (four Eurofighters), and Italy (two F-35As). This Tuesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@NATOALLIEDAIRCOMMAND\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NATO's Allied Air Command<\/a> <strong>published a video explaining what the interception missions these fighters will carry out consist of<\/strong>, what their phases are, and also some examples of Russian aircraft intercepted in recent years:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"What happens during an air interception?\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Y-vUmaXCo0Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The video includes computer-generated images of various aircraft types. <strong>Below, we see an F-35 intercepting two Russian Sukhoi Su-35 fighters.<\/strong> All aircraft are depicted without insignia:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54796916390_5d1a307248_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54796916390_1d9301598e_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In this other computer-generated image, we see <strong>the two Su-35s as they would be seen from the F-35 pilot's cockpit<\/strong>. The data we see in light green is what the F-35 pilot would see in his HDMS helmet, which replaces the HUD that usually appears on the fighter's control panel, showing the pilot flight and target information wherever he looks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54795726142_970d459104_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54795726142_61e4444030_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Below are some images of actual interceptions<\/strong> that appear in the video, recorded on NATO aircraft missions, likely during the Baltic Air Policing (BAP) operation. <strong>In this first image, we see two Russian Sukhoi Su-24 attack aircraft<\/strong>, a supersonic model equipped with variable-geometry wings. In this case, the interception took place in April 2020:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54795726147_9cca159d3f_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54795726147_6451427cf9_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Below these lines we see a Su-35UB<\/strong>, the two-seat version of the Russian fighter I referred to above, in an interception made in April 2022:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54796817489_a9dd5cd8a1_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54796817489_496aff4466_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Finally, here we see a Russian Ilyushin Il-20 spy plane intercepted by a Eurofighter<\/strong> in March 2024.
