Something similar happened at the Pentagon, the building that serves as headquarters for the US Department of Defense. <strong>The fire and the fall of the Twin Towers generated a huge cloud of smoke and toxic dust<\/strong> that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.com.es\/ciencia\/22-anos-despues-11-s-legado-toxico-que-persiste_20688\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">emitted 400 tons of asbestos and other toxic substances<\/a>, affecting between 410,000 and 525,000 people, causing respiratory illnesses and other health problems.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54807004597_6326e2a5fb_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54807004597_d1b75da07c_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">Ground Zero in a photo taken on September 15, 2001, four days after the attacks (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/nara.getarchive.net\/media\/an-aerial-view-days-after-the-terrorist-attacks-on-american-soil-the-towers-d361e8\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. Air Force<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.911victimlawyer.com\/blog\/how-far-dust-travel-on-and-after\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">That dust cloud reached 1 mile (1.6 km) high and carried people 44 miles (70.8 km) from Ground Zero<\/a>, as the site of the Twin Towers was called at the time of the attack. Of course, <strong>that dust also made its way into the tunnels of the New York City Subway<\/strong>. Despite 24 years having passed, that dust is still hidden in a deep, uncrowded part of that subway system, specifically in places that are no longer used and rarely visited.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54807004607_af10899756_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54807004607_cf1578cb7c_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">The World Trade Center subway station, located just below the Twin Towers and destroyed by the collapse of those buildings (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=10158694739153843&set=pcb.10158694739263843\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Transit Museum<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>A few days ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@ltvsquad\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LTV Squad Urban Exploring: Train Decay<\/a>, a YouTube channel specializing in urban exploration related to railways, published an interesting video in which <strong>a man who was in New York on the day of the attacks and was affected by the toxic cloud talks about a tunnel where the dust is still deposited<\/strong>. The video, quite appropriately, does not show how to access the tunnel.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54808184540_580d10fc33_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54808184540_c8e9988308_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">New York City pedestrians on September 11, 2001, covered in dust from the fall of the Twin Towers (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/news.wttw.com\/2021\/09\/10\/20-years-later-fallout-toxic-wtc-dust-cloud-grows\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AP Photo \/ Suzanne Plunkett<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>The video description states: <em>\"<strong>MTA employees and Urban Explorers have known about this site for two decades<\/strong>, critically analyzing what is known and what remains to be resolved.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NYC&#039;s secret 9\/11 Tomb\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lSvBs-IWPJ8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>You can see a screenshot from the video here, showing that <strong>the base of the tunnel is covered in grayish water<\/strong>. This color is believed to be due to the dust that had settled there after the 9\/11 attacks.
