It is also an opportunity to reclaim our history, born from the encounter between two very different worlds that exchanged many things with each other. A meeting in which Spain put an end to a horrific genocide, the one committed by the Aztecs against other peoples of pre-Columbian America. It is a past of which we can be very proud, because thanks to Spain, indigenous languages are preserved today, some of which had their own grammar before the English language did.

In Spain, with the traditional October 12th parade, we have a great opportunity to pay tribute and show gratitude to those who serve our nation in its Armed Forces and its Security Forces and Corps, men and women who make many sacrifices so that the rest of us in Spain can have peace, freedom, and security. And of course, a day to remember and honor those who served Spain to the point of sacrificing their lives, and also those who are still alive and have seen their bodies and lives destroyed for being faithful to the oath they took before the National Flag, many of them due to the brutal and bloody claws of terrorism.

On the other hand, this is a day to be valued beyond politics. Sometimes, following the media gives the impression that politicians are the protagonists of our national life, even on this day. And that's not the case. Today is a day to be proud of those Spanish fathers and mothers who get up early every day to go to work and raise and educate their children. It's a day for those who make enormous efforts to support their families, care for their elders, help others, and make our country a little better.

Today is a day to remember those who serve Spain by striving to do their job well, sometimes a modest job that is little known by others, but no less important than that of those to whom the media pays attention daily. It is also a day to remember those young people who strive to study to one day become good professionals and good people.

It's normal to be tempted to think that Spain is no longer worth living in because there are politicians who embarrass us, politicians who confuse our country with their own private estate, who put their personal interests before the common good, and who always make decisions without considering the good of our country. But Spain is much more than them. There are millions of Spaniards who make this nation worth living in, who make it a country where, despite its many problems, it's a pleasure to live. There are people who make us miss our homeland so much when we're far away, and there are also people who make people from other countries end up loving Spain and the unique Spanish way of life.

Today is a day to appreciate all the good that Spain has to offer and to commit to improving everything we can, because the future of this great Nation is in the hands of all of us, even if it's sometimes for small things that we often overlook. For all of them, there is much to celebrate today, and there will continue to be as long as Spain exists. To Hispanics around the world:

<big2>Happy Hispanicity Day!</big2>

---

Photo: Elentir.

Every October 12th, Spain celebrates the anniversary of the most important milestone in its history: the Discovery of America.

[11471
12107,12108,22841,11462
post-61155","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-hispanicity","tag-hispanicity","tag-hispanicity-day","tag-national-day-of-spain","tag-spain
