{"id":61180,"date":"2025-10-13T21:03:39","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T19:03:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/?p=61180"},"modified":"2025-10-19T20:19:22","modified_gmt":"2025-10-19T18:19:22","slug":"sikorsky-unveils-the-u-hawk-the-unmanned-variant-of-the-uh-60-black-hawk-helicopter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/10\/13\/sikorsky-unveils-the-u-hawk-the-unmanned-variant-of-the-uh-60-black-hawk-helicopter\/","title":{"rendered":"Sikorsky unveils the U-Hawk, the unmanned variant of the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk is an excellent helicopter that has been in service for many years but continues to be a sales success.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2023\/04\/20\/mh-60r-seahawk-this-is-the-new-multi-mission-helicopter-that-the-spanish-navy-will-receive\/\">MH-60R Seahawk: this is the new multi-mission helicopter that the Spanish Navy will receive<\/a><\/rel><br \/>\n<rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/05\/26\/the-special-operations-helicopters-of-the-united-states-armys-night-stalkers\/\">The special operations helicopters of the United States Army's 'Night Stalkers'<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Black Hawk made its first flight on November 29, 1974, and entered service in 1978.<\/strong> So many years later, its manufacturer is still exploring new market niches for this aircraft. <a href=\"https:\/\/news.lockheedmartin.com\/2025-10-13-Sikorsky-Converts-BLACK-HAWK-into-U-Hawk-A-Battle-Ready-Autonomous-UAS\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Today Sikorsky unveiled the S-70UAS U-Hawk<\/a>, <strong>an unmanned variant that completely eliminates the crew cabin<\/strong>, leaving room for two cargo doors and a ramp. Sikorsky unveiled this new model in a video published just a few hours ago:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Introducing the S-70UAS\u2122 U-Hawk\u2122\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Zj7tjvTPwWI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>The S-70UAS was developed from the UH-60L,<\/strong> a version of the Black Hawk that entered production in 1989 and was fitted with more powerful T700-GE-701C engines. <strong>The U-Hawk offers 25% more cargo space without enlarging the aircraft's fuselage.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54852797864_04848b1c5b_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54852797864_d20dc2e940_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sikorsky says it took just 10 months to go from concept to finished helicopter<\/strong>, although the U-Hawk is not expected to make its first flight until 2026.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54851692752_0d7d9d766b_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54851692752_30a11f3b1a_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The U-Hawk manufacturer claims this UH-60 variant can carry one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hdtglobal.com\/product\/hdt-hunter-wolf\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HDT Hunter Wolf 6x6 UGV<\/a> unmanned ground vehicle, up to four Joint Modular Intermodal Containers, or one <strong>six-rocket HIMARS pod or two Naval Strike Missiles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54851692712_349e107e78_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54851692712_7f32805d19_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In terms of performance, <strong>the U-Hawk has a range of 1,600 nautical miles (2,963 km)<\/strong> compared to the UH-60M's ferry range of 1,199 nautical miles (2,221 km), and can <strong>stay airborne for up to 14 hours without refueling<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54851692737_39532e587e_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54851692737_7366bbf20a_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>In addition to the new clamshell front door, the U-Hawk retains side doors<\/strong> for access to its cargo bay and can also carry external cargo from a hook on the underside of the helicopter, similar to the Black Hawk. <strong>Sikorsky says the U-Hawk can lift an external load of up to 9,000 pounds (4,080 kg)<\/strong>, while the helicopter\u2019s total payload capacity, both internal and external, is increased to 10,000 pounds (4,535 kg), according to <a href=\"https:\/\/lockheedmartin.com\/en-us\/products\/s-70uas-u-hawk-fully-autonomous-helicopter.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lockheed Martin<\/a>, Sikorsky\u2019s parent company.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54852797834_d92b5c8f2d_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54852797834_7aef189500_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The U-Hawk eliminates the role of the pilot: <em>\"<strong>A tablet gives an operator full command of the U-Hawk aircraft from start-up to shut down<\/strong>,\"<\/em> Sikorky notes.<em> \"At the touch of a button, the two clamshell doors open and a ramp lowers to allow easy cargo loading or drive-on capability. To prepare for flight, the automated sequence is reversed. <strong>Once loaded, an operator inputs mission goals via the tablet.
