The F-81 frigate \"Santa Mar\u00eda,\" the oldest frigate in the Spanish Navy, has had some of its weapons systems upgraded.<\/p>\n

The heavy weapons carried on board by the Spanish frigates of the 'Santa Mar\u00eda' class<\/a><\/rel>

A year ago, this vessel incorporated two Sentinel 2.0 remote-controlled weapon stations (RWS)<\/strong>, one with a 12.7 mm Browning M-2 machine gun and the other with an Mk-19 automatic grenade launcher. This is a station manufactured by the Spanish company Escribano Mechanical & Engineering (EM&E)<\/a> and which works on the vessel in coordination with Indra's Crow anti-drone detection system<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In addition, the frigate \"Santa Mar\u00eda\" said goodbye to the old CIWS Meroka counter-missile system<\/a>, which had been on board the ship since its construction more than 40 years ago. This system was located on the ship's aircraft hangar, but was already obsolete.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In its place, an EM&E Sentinel 30 remote-controlled weapons station<\/strong> has been installed, equipped with a 30 mm Mk44 Bushmaster II automatic cannon. This station will be part of the arsenal of the new frigates of the \"Bonifaz\" F-110 class<\/a>.<\/p>\n

EM&E Group<\/a> has published an interesting video today in which we can see these weapons systems in action aboard the frigate \"Santa Mar\u00eda\"<\/strong>. Specifically, we see the shots, in this order, of the Sentinel 2.0 with the Browing M-2, then the Sentinel 2.0 with the Mk-19 grenade launcher and finally the Sentinel 30 with the Mk44 Bushmaster II cannon:<\/p>\n
