The most accurate word to describe the real situation in Nigeria is genocide. The total elimination of the Christian population is underway. A genocide at the hands of jihadists that is also a religious war against us.".

RTVE denies the genocide of Christians in Nigeria, citing two sources

This was said by a Nigerian bishop, a man who lives in that country and knows firsthand what is happening there. However, yesterday RTVE, controlled by the socialist government of Pedro Sánchez, published a text saying that what is happening in Nigeria "is not a genocide." This was published in the "RTVE Verifica" (RTVE Fact Check) section created by the public broadcaster to debunk misinformation. The text states that what is happening in Nigeria "are terrorist attacks and land conflicts."

RTVE claims to have consulted with "experts," but its sources are limited to two: the leftist NGO Amnesty International and a journalist from La Razón. If it consulted anyone else, RTVE does not indicate who. It is worth remembering that in 2011 Amnesty International stated that it did not consider ETA a terrorist group: "We cannot define this group or any other as terrorist because we lack that common global element of being able to define people as terrorists." They're the same ones who are now saying that there isn't a genocide against Christians in Nigeria, but rather terrorism. Let's see if they can get their facts straight.

Is the murder of 52,000 Christians an example of “religious tolerance”?

To give you an idea, those 52,000 Christians killed in five years in Nigeria are 60 times the number killed by ETA in almost 50 years. It is also worth noting that RTVE has a "genocides" section that only discusses Israel, contributing to the spread of a hoax created by the far left when there were more deaths in Israel than in Gaza, in the context of a war started by Hamas that resulted in the largest massacre suffered by the Jewish people since the Holocaust. So far, "Verifica RTVE", has not published a single article to debunk Hamas's false claims. In fact, RTVE disseminated Hamas's false death toll figures without verification while questioning Israel's. This gives us an idea of how reliable the verification system of this media outlet controlled by the socialists really is.

In today's RTVE report, Amnesty International states: "The murders and atrocities being committed in Nigeria are not religious in nature." The expert in question seems to overlook a fact that is common knowledge: these crimes committed by Islamist terrorists have killed 52,000 Christians. If this isn't religiously motivated, then what is? The other expert quoted by RTVE is even more audacious: "Nigeria's religious tolerance is an example to follow." A country where Islamism has murdered 52,000 Christians is an example of "religious tolerance" that we should emulate? Are you kidding me?

One of the 'experts' quoted by RTVE blames “pro-Israeli accounts”

RTVE also provides the following opinion from this "expert" on what he calls the "hoax" of the genocide against Christians in Nigeria: "They are contaminated by news from abroad," he says. He points to "pro-Israel accounts" that began spreading it as a counterpoint to the situation in Gaza and also to "evangelist groups" [sic] that have spread it within Nigeria." And he seems perfectly content with that.

This is comical. A Spanish journalist criticizes Nigerians for denouncing a "genocide," saying they are influenced by "news from outside," while two non-Nigerian sources try to convince us that what even a Nigerian Catholic bishop has denounced as a "genocide" is a lie. Will they now say that Monsignor Wilfred Chikpa Anagbe is an "evangelical" or an Israeli propagandist?

Nigeria has been governed by a socialist party since 2015

It's not hard to find the political motivation behind that RTVE text. Since 2023, the president of Nigeria has been Bola Tinubu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party that has governed the country since 2015 and has been a consultative member of the Socialist International since 2014. In fact, on April 1, 2015, following the presidential elections held in the African country, the Socialist International congratulated the APC, stating that it is "a party that, at the last meeting of the Council of our International in December 2014, was accepted as a member of the organization." Is the pamphlet published yesterday by RTVE now clearer?

---

Photo: Marco Longari/AFP.
