Less than seven months to plan the desecration of the Valley of the Fallen<\/big><\/p>\n
On April 15, 2025, the government of Pedro S\u00e1nchez launched an international competition for the \"reinterpretation of the Valley of Cuelgamuros\"<\/a>, a way of disguising an attempt to desecrate the Valley of the Fallen monument<\/strong>, which contains a Catholic basilica and the burial site of soldiers killed on both sides of the Spanish Civil War.<\/p>\n Yesterday, less than seven months after the start of the competition, the government announced the winning proposal<\/a>, about which there are few details at the moment but it is already known that it will include demolishing the current access staircase to the monument. The winning project model does not include the religious images on the exterior of the monument<\/a>: neither the Piet\u00e0 sculpture above the door, nor the four Evangelists<\/strong> at the foot of the Cross (Saint Matthew, Saint Mark, Saint Luke and Saint John), nor the four statues of the cardinal virtues:<\/strong> prudence, justice, fortitude and temperance.<\/p>\n Statues that the government has allowed to deteriorate<\/big><\/p>\n These sculptures are the work of Juan de \u00c1valos y Taborda<\/strong> (1911-2006), an internationally renowned Spanish sculptor who, among other works, was also the creator of the Monument to John Paul II next to the Almudena Cathedral in Madrid. These statues have no political connotations, and removing them would be a serious attack on our cultural and artistic heritage<\/strong>, a behavior more typical of the Taliban in Afghanistan than of a government that claims to be democratic. It must be said that Pedro S\u00e1nchez's government has allowed these statues to deteriorate<\/a>, failing in its duty to preserve them so that it will later have a pretext to remove them<\/strong>. This is a policy typical of fanatics who have no respect for Spain's cultural heritage.<\/p>\n S\u00e1nchez does not plan to undertake flood prevention works until at least 2027<\/big><\/p>\n The announcement made yesterday by the government has caused outrage among many Spaniards.<\/strong> The anger of many people, expressed in criticism of this project on social media, is not only due to the fact of desecrating a religious and funerary monument to subject it to the ideological tenets of the socialist government<\/strong>, which is serious in itself, but also because of another event that occurred a year ago. The first anniversary of the devastating floods of October 29, 2014, in several regions of Spain was recently commemorated<\/strong>, a catastrophe that resulted in several hundred deaths. We recently learned that this year the S\u00e1nchez government has not undertaken any work to prevent new floods and does not plan to do any until at least 2027<\/a>.<\/p>\n It is truly outrageous to see that while the government is adopting a grossly negligent attitude towards future floods<\/strong>, failing to take any measures to prevent a tragedy like the one in 2024 from happening again, S\u00e1nchez plans to squander 30 million euros on desecrating the Valley of the Fallen<\/a> to subject it to his ideological whims<\/strong>. Once again, it is clear that this government prioritizes the whims of its president, his ideological agenda, and his smokescreens (S\u00e1nchez has a habit of resorting to the Francoist scapegoat to cover up his government's corruption scandals<\/strong>) over real problems and even the lives of Spaniards. It is a purely criminal form of government.<\/strong><\/p>\n Two parties implicated in war crimes and who want to rewrite history<\/big><\/p>\n Speaking of crimes, it's worth remembering that this government is made up of ministers from<\/strong> two parties (the PSOE and the PCE) that were implicated in war crimes during the aforementioned Civil War<\/a>. Many of these crimes were perpetrated in torture centers known as \"Chekas\"<\/a> (because they were created in imitation of the political police of Lenin's dictatorship, the brutal Cheka). Furthermore, the left was implicated in the murder of thousands of prisoners of war, such as the Paracuellos massacre<\/a>, and in a religious persecution in which thousands of Catholics suffered torture, rape, and murder because of their faith<\/a>. These are horrific crimes that the PSOE and the PCE have never condemned. Now those same parties are the ones trying to desecrate a monument to rewrite history to suit their own purposes.<\/strong> It's a macabre mockery of history and their victims.<\/p>\n ---<\/p>\n![](\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54918403419_0cc284ae40_c.jpg\")
