This Thursday, after 2:00 p.m. CET, the Supreme Court announced a guilty verdict for \u00c1lvaro Garc\u00eda Ortiz.<\/p>\n
In its statement<\/a>, the Supreme Court announced that it \"has sentenced \u00c1lvaro Garc\u00eda Ortiz to a fine and a two-year ban from holding the office of Attorney General of the State for the crime of revealing secrets<\/strong>.\"<\/em> The sentence was approved with the support of five of the seven members of the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n The punishment consists of a \"fine of 12 months at a daily rate of 20 euros and special disqualification from holding the office of Attorney General of the State for a period of 2 years<\/strong>, and the payment of the corresponding court costs, including those of the private prosecution. As civil liability, the convicted party is ordered to compensate Mr. Alberto Gonz\u00e1lez Amador with 10,000 euros for moral damages<\/strong>.\"<\/em><\/p>\n This is the first time a sitting Attorney General has been convicted of a crime<\/strong>. Although the sentence is not as severe as it could have been (the crime of revealing secrets is punishable by up to four years in prison under the Penal Code), this decision by the Supreme Court calls Pedro S\u00e1nchez's government into question for its support of Garc\u00eda Ortiz and its pressure and attacks on judges<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Let us remember that just 12 days ago<\/strong>, in an interview published by the newspaper El Pa\u00eds, S\u00e1nchez stated that the Attorney General \"is innocent\"<\/a>. Likewise, on December 19, 2024<\/strong>, misrepresenting a report from the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard, S\u00e1nchez had asked<\/a>: \"Who is going to apologize to the Attorney General of the State?<\/strong> Who is going to do it? Because there have been many people who have demanded his resignation, without evidence, with false accusations<\/strong>, with hoaxes and disinformation.\"<\/em><\/p>\n What has become clear today is that the government defended the perpetrator of a serious crime<\/strong> and did so by resorting to hoaxes<\/a> and using public media paid for by all taxpayers, such as RTVE. Let us also recall that in January it was revealed that the investigating judge implicated the government in the leak of this classified information<\/a>. Ultimately, this whole matter stems from an attempt to use confidential information to attack a political rival, Isabel D\u00edaz Ayuso<\/strong> (President of the Community of Madrid), for alleged acts committed by her boyfriend that have not yet resulted in any judicial conviction.<\/p>\n Thus, what this ruling confirms is the mafia-like use of power by this government, under whose orders the Attorney General stands<\/strong>, who has acted until now with shameful obedience to the directives of Pedro S\u00e1nchez's cabinet. The coalition of socialists and communists that governs Spain has done immense damage to the rule of law<\/strong>, acting in a manner typical of regimes like that of Nicol\u00e1s Maduro in Venezuela, but ultimately, the justice system has withstood the intolerable pressures of a government mired in corruption<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Today is undoubtedly a day of celebration for democrats. The rule of law has won this battle against a government that seeks to impose its will without any limits<\/strong>, destroying democratic checks and balances and subjecting the judiciary to its control. However, more battles remain to be won. The most important will be the one that removes S\u00e1nchez from power<\/strong>, makes him pay for everything he has done, and dismantles the corrupt regime he has established.<\/p>\n ---<\/p>\n
