In January, the Australian newspaper The Sidney Morning Herald explained it like this:

"The film now opens with text acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land, which is appropriately respectful given it depicts Indigenous culture in the Territory, even if it might rankle those lobbying to ditch welcome to Country ceremonies."

What a load of rubbish. Will they put a similar warning in the film "El Cid" to remind us that Christians were the indigenous culture of Spain before the Muslim invasion of 711? Are we going to see similar warnings in every film that includes the result of an invasion? Obviously not. There are only certain conquests that bother the progressive discourse: it never criticizes the violent Muslim expansionism during the High Middle Ages, for example (which displaced communities like the Chaldean Christians of Egypt or the Jews of the Holy Land), but if we talk about the conquest of America or Australia by Europeans, then the progressives go hysterical. And so it goes with everything.

The Australian newspaper also noted that some scenes have been censored to pass the test of progressive intolerance:

"Gone is the most dubious scene in the film showing Mick grabbing a bar patron in the groin and declaring “that was a guy, a guy dressed up like a sheila” while someone else yells “faggot”.

In a statement before the screening, production company Rimfire Films said, “Some years ago, Paramount Pictures and other distributors requested the reference to the crossdresser be edited from the original film, as they found it offensive. We agreed to that request”.

A later sequence when Mick does the same thing to a woman at a party, saying, “I was just making sure”, has also been cut. Other than lingering on that woman smiling at Mick for a moment after she has been groped, both edits have been made without changing the flow of the film."

This is unheard of: a film from the 1980s is being censored because it contains details that the current left cannot tolerate. What will be next? Censoring scenes in films where people go to church and bless the table in case Muslims are offended? Will they remove all footage in which someone asks a boy if he has a girlfriend, in case LGBT people are offended?

Interestingly, woke censors have seen no problem with the film's scenes depicting cocaine use as normal, nor with the Walkabout Creek bar scene where white Australians from the Northern Territory are portrayed as uneducated, nor with the scene featuring two prostitutes. There will always be someone who is offended by some scene, but for wokism, the only potential offenses that should be considered are those that align with its dogmas. Everything else is irrelevant.

I wonder what will happen when this censorship starts filling the lyrics of songs from the 1980s with crossed-out words. In Spanish pop music of that era, which wasn't so prudish, there were very irreverent themes that wouldn't be tolerated by the progressive inquisition today. It's not an exaggeration to ask this: they started censoring books years ago because they contradicted the woke vision of society.

If we keep going like this, the ending of "Back to the Future" (1985) will be sadly prophetic. I'm referring to the famous scene where the protagonist, Marty McFly, asks Dr. Emmett Brown: "What happens to us in the future? Do we become assholes or something?"

We are living in unusual times in which censorship is reappearing with force, disguised with progressive trappings.

[11953
12063,25877,10641,10826
post-62192","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-cinema-and-tv","tag-censorship","tag-crocodile-dundee","tag-political-corruption","tag-progressivism
