Today, that agency controlled by the socialists displayed its curious idea of \u200b\u200bjournalistic rigor in a news piece titled \"How the political map of Latin America looks after the victory of the far-right Kast in Chile<\/a>. The EFE report describes the winner of yesterday's presidential elections in Chile, the Republican Jos\u00e9 Antonio Kast, as \"far-right\"<\/strong>, an expression it also uses to discredit the democratically elected president of Argentina, Javier Milei<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Both Kast and Milei are democratic politicians who have won free elections<\/strong>, but Efe applies this disqualification to them simply because they don't subscribe to the left's ideological agenda.<\/strong>In reality, these labels only highlight Efe's ideological sectarianism<\/strong> and its manipulations when referring to left-wing political rivals. These manipulations are how Efe engages in activism, not journalism.<\/strong> In fact, its treatment of far-left politicians (a label that describes the non-democratic left) is very different.<\/p>\n

In that same article, Efe refers to three far-left dictators: Nicol\u00e1s Maduro (Venezuela), Daniel Ortega (Nicaragua), and Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel (Cuba)<\/strong>, but its treatment of them avoids the adjectives it applies to Kast and Milei, democratic politicians. Efe does not call these three dictators \"far-left\" and also avoids calling their regimes \"dictatorships,\"<\/strong> stating: \"Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua have maintained governments for decades that are questioned by numerous international organizations due to their serious democratic shortcomings.\"<\/em><\/p>\n

Would Efe say that Francisco Franco's regime had \"serious democratic shortcomings,\" instead of calling it a \"dictatorship\"?<\/strong> You don't have to use your imagination to find the answer. On October 13, in a brief article, Efe referred to Francoism as a \"dictatorship\" four times.<\/a> But when dictatorships are socialist or communist, Efe avoids that word. That's activism, not journalism.<\/strong><\/p>\n
