Following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/12\/18\/spain-buys-100-military-helicopters-from-airbus-including-50-h145ms-for-the-famet\/\">the announcement of the purchase of 100 helicopters for the Spanish Armed Forces<\/a> last week, the European aerospace company published another announcement this Tuesday: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbus.com\/en\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2025-12-spain-orders-18-c295-transport-aircraft\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the purchase of 18 C295 transport aircraft for the Spanish Air Force<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55000600567_9e6a9f5b9b_o.jpg?s=eyJpIjo1NTAwMDYwMDU2NywiZSI6MTc2NjUxMjIxMiwicyI6ImIyMzBjODU4NmMwNDQ3MjIyYTU2NjZhZTU0MmJlNmY1ZGRjYWEzNWMiLCJ2IjoxfQ\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55000600567_2214bb3d77_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>\"<strong>The Spanish Ministry of Defence has acquired 18 Airbus C295 transport aircraft to replace the CN235 and C212 fleets<\/strong> dedicated to the training of pilots and paratroopers of the Spanish Air and Space Force.,\"<\/em> states <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbus.com\/en\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2025-12-spain-orders-18-c295-transport-aircraft\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the press release<\/a> published by Airbus this afternoon. <em>\"<strong>The objective of this programme is to harmonise fleets<\/strong> and achieve maximum logistical and operational commonality with the C295 fleet currently operated by Spain.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55001747364_dc0d1f9590_o.jpg?s=eyJpIjo1NTAwMTc0NzM2NCwiZSI6MTc2NjUxMjIyOSwicyI6ImZjZThiNDQ1MWQ0ZTdhMzFkYWZiMmU3YmI3M2ZjODM1NDNlNGY1M2EiLCJ2IjoxfQ\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55001747364_332404f983_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Airbus comments on this order as follows: <em>\"To meet the specific requirements of the Spanish Air and Space Force, the agreement is divided into two batches. <strong>The first group of C295s will be dedicated to training and the transport of passengers, paratroopers, and cargo<\/strong> at the Military Air Transport School at Matac\u00e1n Air Base in Salamanca. These tasks are currently performed by CN235 aircraft. <strong>The first of these aircraft will be delivered in 2026 and the last in 2028.<\/strong>\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55000600532_f0b5a433e1_o.jpg?s=eyJpIjo1NTAwMDYwMDUzMiwiZSI6MTc2NjUxMjI0NCwicyI6ImFkNDIzM2UxZmExMmFlYjU0OTQ0ZjFiMmM4NzU0MDdmOWViYzM2ODYiLCJ2IjoxfQ\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55000600532_c802055d50_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Airbus statement adds: <em>\"<strong>The second group of C295s will be used for manual and automatic paratrooper drops, as well as cargo drops, with deliveries  scheduled between 2030 and 2032.<\/strong> Currently, these tasks are carried out at the Military Parachuting School at Alcantarilla Air Base in Murcia, using C212 aircraft.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55001787785_a0a45415d4_o.jpg?s=eyJpIjo1NTAwMTc4Nzc4NSwiZSI6MTc2NjUxMjI2NSwicyI6ImQ2YzgyOTc3ODEzMWU2ODJmNTExZDMxZWQzODIyNTdkNzdiMDJkN2MiLCJ2IjoxfQ\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55001787785_7479770bbe_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Currently, the Spanish Air Force still has 16 CN-235s in service:<\/strong> 8 of the tactical transport variant with the Matac\u00e1n Training Group (GRUEMA) and 8 of the VIGMA (maritime surveillance) version with Wings 46, 48, and 49. <strong>In addition, there are 10 C212 Aviocars still in service<\/strong> with the 721 Squadron, primarily used for paratrooper training at the \"M\u00e9ndez Parada\" Military Parachute School. <strong>It is assumed that once replaced by the C295, the CN235s of GRUEMA will temporarily replace the C212s of the 721 Squadron<\/strong>, as these aircraft have more years of service.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55001787750_2a82f0d5e2_o.jpg?s=eyJpIjo1NTAwMTc4Nzc1MCwiZSI6MTc2NjUxMjI4MiwicyI6IjYzNjRlZDkxMDY0MjlkNTViNGIzMTdjZjVkODZmNjBmM2QzOGQzOTkiLCJ2IjoxfQ\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55001787750_a8044fa043_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Spanish Air Force already has 12 C295 tactical transport aircraft<\/strong>, operated by Wing 35 from Getafe Air Base (Madrid).
