I have spent years criticizing some media outlets for reporting on rumors or, worse, on leaks from political parties.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, this type of news often succeeds<\/strong>, even if the same outlet previously published headlines that turned out to be false. Let's look at two examples. Today VozP\u00f3puli publishes<\/a>: \"The PP is negotiating the integration of 'purged' Vox members<\/strong> in search of 400,000 votes in limbo\"<\/em>. The article includes a photo of Iv\u00e1n Espinosa de los Monteros. Some have already launched attacks against Iv\u00e1n and others mentioned in the news.<\/strong> This very morning, the former Vox deputy pointed out<\/a>:<\/p>\n \"I've read some news about people apparently negotiating to join other parties; I've called some of those mentioned to ask, and there's nothing to it.<\/strong> It's not April Fool's Day yet... It's hard to understand where these things come from. Or maybe I do<\/strong>... What a bunch!\"<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n The news is very ambiguous. It mentions some names of liberals of Vox<\/strong>, implying that they might be among those contacted. This, quite simply, is trying to sell smoke and mirrors<\/strong>. And it's not the first time. On January 22, 2024, VozP\u00f3puli published<\/a>: \"Espinosa de los Monteros is promoting a new party along with other Vox purges<\/strong> to run in the European elections\"<\/em>. Almost two years have passed since that news was published. Iv\u00e1n did not found any new party<\/strong> and in March 2025 he declared to VozP\u00f3puli: \"I am not going to tear up my Vox membership card.\"<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n The second example is even more curious. Today EsDiario.com publishes<\/a>: \"The PP reaches out to Espinosa de los Monteros and the Vox victims<\/strong>\".<\/em> This article says some very funny things, such as that the PP (an ideologically progressive, pro-abortion party that supports gender ideology) is offering \"a liberal-conservative path\"<\/strong> to these people. I can't help but laugh as I write this. What jokers these PP people are...<\/p>\n Once again, we're faced with a piece of misinformation.<\/strong> There's nothing concrete, and it all seems to be a leak from the PP leadership. It also includes the figure of 400,000 published today by VozP\u00f3puli. The article mentions \"agreement on economic, fiscal, and European positions\"<\/em> and ends with this paragraph<\/strong>, which I'll transcribe again, unable to suppress a laugh:<\/p>\n \"In G\u00e9nova they are cautious, but the move is clear: to broaden the electoral base on the right without radicalizing the discourse<\/strong>, attracting political and intellectual talent that Vox once built and that today does not recognize itself in its direction. For the PP, it is not just about adding votes, but about strengthening its project as a common home for a modern, liberal, and governing right.<\/strong>\"<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n This information was published at 10:00 this morning, before Iv\u00e1n Espinosa de los Monteros issued a denial. Significantly, the article does not include that denial<\/strong>, because then it would be evident that this media outlet published the information without even the most basic verification with those involved. I can't help but recall that in February, : \"Espinosa de los Monteros and Alvise together?<\/strong> The MEP willing to cede the leadership of 'SALF' if there are elections.\"<\/em> It was a sensationalist headline based solely on a message from Alvise P\u00e9rez.<\/strong> At least in that report, the aforementioned media outlet included a denial from Iv\u00e1n Espinosa<\/a>, but avoided mentioning it in the headline, because then it would have no effect.<\/p>\n I understand that nowadays many media outlets depend on advertising revenue<\/strong>, and this increases in direct proportion to website traffic, which often leads to sacrificing accuracy in certain headlines, publishing clickbait that appeals to people's curiosity.<\/strong> I certainly believe there are more ethical ways to do journalism.<\/p>\n ---<\/p>\n
