The president of the Spanish government, the socialist Pedro S\u00e1nchez, never misses an opportunity to align himself with dictatorships<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Spanish socialism and the Maduro dictatorship: a desperate attempt at mutual salvation?<\/a><\/rel>
\nPSOE votes against demanding dictator Maduro to end repression in Venezuela<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n

The leftist leader has spent years collecting friendly photos with dictators<\/a> and also doing favors for the socialist dictatorship of Nicol\u00e1s Maduro<\/strong>, who this Saturday was captured by the United States<\/a> after a swift military intervention to put an end to his criminal activity at the head of the Cartel of the Suns, an organization dedicated to terrorism and illegal drug trafficking. That odious habit of S\u00e1nchez's is increasingly damaging Spain's image abroad<\/strong>, something that he doesn't seem to care about.<\/p>\n

In a message posted this afternoon on his Twitter account, S\u00e1nchez stated<\/a>: \"Spain did not recognize the Maduro regime. But neither will it recognize an intervention that violates international law and pushes the region toward a horizon of uncertainty and war mongering.<\/strong> We ask all actors to consider the civilian population, to respect the Charter of the United Nations, and to work toward a just and negotiated transition.\"<\/em><\/p>\n

It should be remembered that Pedro S\u00e1nchez also did not recognize Edmundo Gonz\u00e1lez as the elected president of Venezuela<\/a> after he won the 2024 presidential elections. The equidistant attitude of the socialist leader is partly explained by his own political radicalism<\/strong> (which has led him to unleash a campaign of slander against the State of Israel, aligning himself with several Islamist dictatorships, including Iran<\/a>) and also because of the ideological leanings of his parliamentary allies, on whom he depends to remain in power after losing the 2023 general elections. S\u00e1nchez's communist allies have come out in unison today in support of Maduro<\/a>, just as they have on other occasions.<\/p>\n

S\u00e1nchez's extremist drift and his affinity with the worst dictatorships are nothing new. In 2020, his government accepted that Cuba, Iran, and Venezuela lecture Spain on human rights<\/a> while they violated those rights within their own borders. In mid-September 2024, S\u00e1nchez's government remained silent when the Maduro dictatorship kidnapped two Spanish citizens<\/a>. A little later, the Spanish executive, a coalition of socialists and communists, allowed Edmundo Gonz\u00e1lez to be extorted at the Spanish embassy in Caracas<\/a>, giving access to the diplomatic headquarters to Delcy Rodr\u00edguez, the right-hand woman of dictator Maduro, to force him into exile.<\/p>\n

S\u00e1nchez's party, the PSOE, backed up these favors from the government with its parliamentary positions. On September 24, in the Madrid Assembly, the PSOE voted against recognizing Edmundo Gonz\u00e1lez as president of Venezuela<\/a>. In December of that year, in the Congress of Deputies, the PSOE voted against an initiative to demand that the dictator Maduro end the repression in Venezuela<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In 2025, the PSOE voted in Congress and in the European Parliament against two initiatives against the Cartel of the Suns<\/a>, the criminal organization that Nicol\u00e1s Maduro headed until his capture today. All this while a prominent member of the PSOE, former president Jos\u00e9 Luis Rodr\u00edguez Zapatero<\/strong>, acted as the de facto ambassador of that dictatorship and did business with it<\/a>, business dealings that the Justice system is now beginning to investigate, both in Spain and in the United States, and which could shed light on the constant alignment of the Spanish socialists with the Venezuelan dictatorship<\/strong>, beyond their obvious ideological affinities.<\/p>\n
