For decades the idea that the left is the antithesis of fascism has spread, an idea repeated ad nauseam.<\/p>\n
Socialists and communists have fueled this idea, going so far as to label as \"fascists\" anyone who disagrees with the left on any point<\/strong>, even simply for defending rights and freedoms that many leftists reject, such as the right to life of the unborn, religious freedom, freedom of education, the right to property, or linguistic freedom. In this way, so-called leftist \"anti-fascism\" ended up being a mere imitation of the fascism that socialists and communists claim to detest<\/strong>, sharing its intolerance and its contempt for democracy.<\/p>\n The facts are stubborn. Long before Hitler published his repugnant pamphlet \"Mein Kampf\" to promote hatred of Jews<\/strong>, Karl Marx had already written an equally repugnant antisemitic pamphlet<\/a> that any Nazi could endorse. Antisemitism is today one of the great battlegrounds of the left<\/strong>, whose hatred of the State of Israel\u2014the only real democracy in the Middle East\u2014is matched only by its devotion to communist and Islamist dictatorships.<\/p>\n Let's recall some more facts. Before becoming a fascist leader, Benito Mussolini was a member of the Socialist Party<\/strong> for 14 years, a party from which he was expelled for advocating a nationalism that the left today tolerates and encourages as long as it includes a red star. His ideology shared with communism the same hatred of liberalism<\/strong>, differing from Marxism only on the nationalist aspect.<\/p>\n Adolf Hitler called his totalitarian ideology \"National Socialism,\" and he didn't do so by chance:<\/strong> he advocated a nationalist socialism that aimed to subject all of society to absolute state control, just like the communists. Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union had no qualms about allying themselves to invade Poland in 1939<\/a>, after pretending for some years to be bitter enemies. Only Hitler's betrayal of Stalin in 1941 made the communist dictator switch sides.<\/strong><\/p>\n After World War II, communism tried to make us forget its alliance with Nazism by identifying all its enemies with it<\/strong>, starting with the Poles who fought against the Nazis before any other country. The left has succeeded in making the adjective \"fascist\" synonymous with anti-democratic, something that does not happen with the adjective \"communist,\"<\/strong> which a large part of the left continues to treat with the utmost respect despite the more than 100 million deaths<\/a> caused by more than fifty communist dictatorships<\/a> in the last century. Some of those dictatorships still exist and today oppress a fifth of humanity. In reality, communism is as anti-democratic and criminal as nazism<\/strong>, and this has been recognized by some democratic countries that prohibit the propaganda of both totalitarian ideologies.<\/p>\n This Saturday, the capture of dictator Nicol\u00e1s Maduro<\/a>, a criminal who had ruled Venezuela for 12 years with a brutal regime, has unleashed hysteria among the extreme left<\/a> and has been met with a new attitude of assistance from the socialist Pedro S\u00e1nchez<\/a>, a detestable politician whose authoritarianism when governing seems an imitation of the dictatorships with which he always aligns himself<\/a>.<\/p>\n This isn't the first time the left has shown its support for criminal regimes; it's become commonplace. Socialists and communists support and do favors for dictatorships because, until now, this hasn't entailed significant political costs for them<\/strong>, since the umbrella of \"antifascism\" served to excuse them for anything. However, their tendency to align themselves with dictators has led more and more people to see the light.<\/strong> The left is deceiving fewer and fewer unsuspecting people, largely due to an easily verifiable fact: nowadays, almost all dictatorships are communist or Islamist<\/strong> \u2014that is, regimes that get along very well with this \"democratic\" left.<\/p>\n Seeing socialists and communists angry or sulking at the fall of a dictator is very revealing.<\/strong> In the end, all their criticisms of dictatorships like Francisco Franco's, invoking freedoms, democracy, and human rights, actually masked a fact that was impossible to hide: that socialists and communists have just as many authoritarian tendencies as fascists<\/strong>. In fact, those three ideologies sprang from the same root: socialism.<\/p>\n It is absurd to attribute to the right wing the bastard children of socialism such as fascism and Nazism<\/strong>, even though many right-wing extremists have ended up feeling fascinated by this totalitarianism that arose from the left. A fascination that also existed, and to a much greater extent, in the opposite direction: let us remember that a large number of Nazi Party militants came from communist ranks<\/a>. They only had to swap the internationalist mindset for the nationalist one. In all other respects, and especially in their anti-liberalism and intolerance, fascism and communism are indistinguishable<\/strong>. The reactions to the fall of dictator Nicol\u00e1s Maduro have demonstrated this once again.<\/p>\n ---<\/p>\n
