A proposed institutional declaration against repression in Iran<\/big><\/p>\n

On Wednesday, January 14, the People's Party parliamentary group sent a proposed institutional declaration in support of the people of Iran to the other parliamentary groups<\/a>, to take it to the plenary session of Congress the following day. It is worth remembering that in that country, thousands of people have been killed for demonstrating to demand the most basic freedoms and rights<\/a>, including equal rights for women<\/strong>, which the self-proclaimed feminist left talks so much about.<\/p>\n

In a message posted on her Twitter account, Ester Mu\u00f1oz<\/strong>, spokesperson for the People's Party (PP) in Congress, commented on the proposed institutional declaration<\/a>: \"For it to be read at the beginning of the session, it needs the unanimous support of all parties. We hope it will pass and that tomorrow we can recognize, among other things, the courage and tenacity of Iranian women<\/strong>, who have been on the front lines against the regime for years.\"<\/em> As you know, I have criticized the PP many times and will continue to do so whenever I deem it necessary, but I fully agree with this text, simply out of basic humanity.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yesterday, in the early afternoon, the People's Party (PP) group in Congress stated<\/a>: \"The institutional declaration in favor of Iran<\/strong>, with which we sought to recognize, among other things, the courage and tenacity of its women, could not be issued this Thursday. Podemos and Sumar torpedoed it by proposing amendments that distort its meaning.<\/strong>\"<\/em> Specifically, the PP stated the following regarding the objections of these two far-left parties to the declaration: \"They sought to eliminate support for the \u201ccourage of Iranian women\u201d or remove any reference to the imposition of the Islamic veil.<\/strong> Podemos has always had a special relationship with the Iranian tyranny and, along with Sumar, they are allergic to freedom and democracy.\"<\/em><\/p>\n

\"INSTITUTIONAL DECLARATION IN FAVOR OF THE PEOPLE OF IRAN<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Congress of Deputies expresses its firm support for the Iranian people in the face of the brutal repression and human rights violations perpetrated by the Islamic Republic of the Ayatollahs<\/strong>, in power since 1979, which harshly represses any dissent and whose impositions over more than 40 years have led to a very serious political, social, and economic situation. In recent weeks, Iranian society has risen up in dozens of cities across the country to demand a future based on dignity, justice, freedom, and equality for all citizens<\/strong>, regardless of their sex, religion, or ethnic origin.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, this Chamber condemns the brutal and disproportionate repression carried out by the Iranian authorities against the citizens' protests<\/strong>, which has caused thousands of deaths in a few days, many of them shot at point-blank range, and an incalculable number of wounded and detained, and urges an immediate end to all forms of violence against the population<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Congress wishes to emphasize in particular the courage and tenacity of Iranian women<\/strong>, who for years have been on the front lines against the regime, defending their rights. They are the primary victims of the institutional violence<\/strong> of a government that keeps the population under surveillance, and women in particular. The imposition of the veil symbolizes the systematic denial of women's independence<\/strong> and constitutes a graphic manifestation of the lack of freedom that affects all of Iranian society. The slogan \"Women, Life, Freedom\" remains a testament to their leadership in the resistance against oppression and repression.<\/p>\n

We demand an end to the grave human rights violations in the country<\/strong>, respect by the Iranian authorities for the fundamental freedoms of expression, peaceful assembly, and association, and the immediate release of those detained for exercising these rights. We reaffirm our commitment to defending these values \u200b\u200band supporting those who fight to achieve them<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A new display of vileness and inhumanity from the far-left<\/big><\/p>\n

What happened yesterday in Congress is yet another example of the far left's alignment with all kinds of dictatorships<\/strong>, with regimes that use extreme violence to prevent any form of dissent against those in power. Podemos and Sumar are the red version of that fascism they claim to hate, but whose contempt for freedom they fully share<\/strong>, as demonstrated by their support for and favoritism toward dictatorships like Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, Russia, and China.<\/p>\n

I stand by what I said at the beginning of this article. Behind attitudes like that lies something worse than a form of political extremism<\/strong>, something worse than a distorted view of society and the world, something worse than brainwashing due to an overdose of propaganda: it is a display of vileness and inhumanity<\/strong>, a phenomenon that is nothing new among the most fanatical left. It is the same display we already saw in parties like HB, Batasuna, and EH Bildu<\/strong>, which even today refuses to condemn the more than 800 murders perpetrated by the terrorist group ETA, including the murders of children and babies.<\/p>\n
