We are all used to knowing the mountains of our homelands by name, but there are many anonymous peaks.<\/p>\n

In November 2020, Peak Visor<\/a> reported that there are 108,706 unnamed mountains in the world, compared to 1,187,049 that have been named. This figure refers to mountains at least 300 meters high. If we talk about mountains at least 500 meters high, the number of unnamed peaks is 24,092<\/strong> (\"that's more than double the number of mountains in Switzerland\"<\/em>, the website points out). Most of these peaks are in the Himalayan and Pamir mountain ranges in Asia, but there are also unnamed mountains in Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This Thursday, Jim Manthorpe<\/a> posted a video of himself silently ascending one of those unnamed mountains in the heart of the Scottish Highlands<\/strong>. \"The mountain with no name lies to the east of the Aonach Eagach in Glen Coe, Scotland. It is marked on the OS map as peak 903m<\/strong>,\"<\/em> the video's creator notes. After a bit of searching, I found a reference to this unnamed mountain in a 2002 article on westcoastpeaks.com<\/a>, which explains how to reach this anonymous summit.<\/p>\n
