Its origins date back to 1120, although it is believed that a Roman fortification may have previously stood on the site. <strong>Inside, there is a Throne Room<\/strong> with the coat of arms used by the Catholic Monarchs, Elisabeth I of Castile (1451-1504) and Ferdinand II of Aragon (1452-1516).<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/4037\/4494511951_444da6b941_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/4037\/4494511951_d41685a9f4_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/elentir\/4494511951\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Elentir<\/a><\/div>\n<p><strong>The Spanish Habsburg monarchs made little use of this palace<\/strong>, which ended up being used as a prison for nobles in the 17th and 18th centuries. <strong>In 1762, King Charles III ordered the creation of the Royal Artillery College within this fortress<\/strong>, the predecessor of the current Artillery Academy of the Spanish Army. The Alc\u00e1zar served this purpose until 1862, when a terrible fire left it severely damaged.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/7090\/7115549111_119eca5fe7_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/7090\/7115549111_6bb42958ec_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"piedefoto\">Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/elentir\/7115549111\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Elentir<\/a><\/div>\n<p>Following its reconstruction, <strong>the General Military Archive of the Spanish Army was installed in the Alc\u00e1zar in 1898<\/strong>, a location it maintains to this day. In addition to its military use, this beautiful palace has also served as a museum since the 1950s, administered by the Patronato del Alc\u00e1zar de Segovia (Board of Trustees of the Alc\u00e1zar of Segovia), an entity founded in 1951. <strong>In 1985, this castle and the entire old city of Segovia were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.<\/strong> As you can see from the photos above (taken by me in 2010 and 2012, respectively), it is an impressive fortress both day and night.<\/p>\n<div class=\"foto_piedefoto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55055784301_f9c5bbbf5a_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55055784301_7b5be19804_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%;
