The Republic of China (Taiwan) is a Far Eastern country that is today the only free and democratic part of ancient China.<\/p>\n
The current Republic of China was founded in 1949<\/strong> and comprises the islands of Taiwan (also called Formosa), Pescadores, Quemoy, Matsu, Pratas, and Taiping. It is noteworthy that the country is located on the antipodes of the Argentine province of Formosa. Sixty percent of Taiwan's surface area is covered by forests<\/strong>, a higher percentage than that of Spain (55%). Most of these forests are concentrated in central and eastern Formosa. Two-thirds of the island is covered by mountains.<\/p>\n The highest peak in Taiwan is Yu Shan<\/strong>, whose summit reaches 3,952 meters above sea level. Due to its topography, 90% of Taiwan's population lives on the western plains of the island of Formosa<\/strong>. The country's capital, Taipei, with 2.7 million inhabitants and a metropolitan area of \u200b\u200babout 9 million, is located in the north of the island.
