After <strong>the initial order of 24 aircraft in 2020<\/strong>, three years later the Spanish government decided to sign <strong>a second batch of 16 PC-21s<\/strong>, 14 of them for the Elementary School of the General Air Academy (AGA) in San Javier and <strong>2 for the Logistics Center for Armament and Experimentation (CLAEX)<\/strong>, located at the Torrej\u00f3n de Ardoz Air Base (Madrid). <a href=\"https:\/\/ejercitodelaireydelespacio.defensa.gob.es\/EA\/ejercitodelaire\/es\/Actualidad\/Noticias\/Noticia\/20b78819-0328-11f1-b835-005056a2cb59\/?resourceId=20b78819-0328-11f1-b835-005056a2cb59&path=\/sites\/internet.es\/.content\/noticiaEA\/noticiaEA_01446.xml#gsc.tab=0\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Spanish Air Force has announced today the arrival of these two PC-21 aircraft for CLAEX<\/a>, publishing this video showing the moment:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dos aviones Pilatus PC-21 para ensayos en el CLAEX\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/N5vEJyqVWCQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Spanish Air Force indicated that the aircraft arrived this Thursday.<\/strong> The aircraft arrived with their roundels and unit numbers covered, as is customary for these deliveries. <strong>Both PC-21s bore provisional Swiss civilian registrations: HB-HWA<\/strong> for the E.27-39 (10325, 54-39), and HB-HWP for the E.27-40 (10326, 54-40).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55081479131_9b5c6fbe37_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55081479131_7fb58a1d63_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>\"<strong>The PC-21s will be used primarily as follower aircraft in test campaigns assigned to other air systems<\/strong>, complementing the veteran C101 fleet available at CLAEX for these tasks,\"<\/em> the Spanish Air Force stated. Unlike the aircraft of the same type used by the AGA, <strong>these two PC-21s are equipped with instrumentation specifically designed for testing at CLAEX.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55080582612_246c1cf7dc_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55080582612_12cb60f1c3_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Spanish Air Force has stated that <em>\"<strong>the new aircraft represent a leap forward in the maintenance and updating of training in test techniques for the crew members stationed at the center<\/strong>, both test pilots and test engineers<\/em>. <strong>The aircraft handover ceremony was attended by the Director of Sustainability and Operational Logistics Support of the Air Force Logistics Support Command (MALOG)<\/strong>, Major General Carlos P\u00e9rez Mart\u00ednez, <em>\"who attended a briefing on the aircraft's integrated instrumentation and a demonstration of the new capabilities.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55081845485_44f999ec8e_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55081845485_8b6d3f3f3b_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/06\/20\/the-aircraft-and-work-of-the-claex-the-experimental-center-of-the-spanish-air-force\/\">CLAEX was created in 1991, although its origins date back to 1946<\/a>, the year of the founding of the Experimental Group of the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA).
