Commission for Social Development<\/strong>, whose priority theme will be promoting democracy, gender equality, and ensuring tolerance and non-violence.\"<\/em> <strong>UN Watch has released a video showing the moment of Iran's appointment to this position:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-media-max-width=\"665\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">NO JOKE: The Islamic regime in Iran has just been elected as Vice-Chair of the U.N. Commission for Social Development, whose priority theme will be promoting democracy, gender equality, and ensuring tolerance and non-violence.<\/p>\n<p>Chair: \u201cI hear no objection.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mKdYfHVv6R\">pic.twitter.com\/mKdYfHVv6R<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; UN Watch (@UNWatch) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UNWatch\/status\/2021650828814365092?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 11, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/social.desa.un.org\/csocd\/65th-session\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The website for the 65th session of the UN Commission for Social Development (CSocD65)<\/a> already indicates that one of its vice-chairs will be Abbas Tajik from Iran. <strong>The session will take place from February 1 to 10, 2027, and its objective is to:<\/strong> <em>\"Strengthening social development through intergenerational approaches for achieving sustainable development and the implementation of the Copenhagen and Doha commitments towards 2030 and beyond.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This wasn't the only controversy of the day regarding the UN and Iran. <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/HillelNeuer\/status\/2021516303207653388\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, denounced on Wednesday<\/a> that <strong>UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres congratulated Iran on the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution<\/strong> in a message to President Masoud Pezeshkian. <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/HillelNeuer\/status\/2021547757128003807\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Neuer addressed Guterres<\/a>, stating: <em>\"<strong>We are calling on the UN to release this shameful letter of congratulations to the Islamic Regime.<\/strong> It was reported in Iranian regime media but everything about the story sounds authentic, and in line with your past approach. The world needs to know the truth.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/UNWatch\/status\/2021745730432516540\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Today, Efrat Lachter of Fox News asked UN spokesman St\u00e9phane Dujarric about that letter<\/a>, receiving this unusual response: <em>\"So the letter that went out from the Secretary-General is a standard letter that goes out to every member states on their national holiday. And this has been a tradition for decades.\"<\/em> Dujarric noted that <em>\"<strong>the letters went out yesterday to Iran, Gambia, and Lithuania<\/strong>, if I'm not mistaken. \"<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Let us remember that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2026\/01\/26\/iran-30-days-of-protests-more-than-36500-people-killed-and-many-masks-dropped\/\">the Iranian Islamist dictatorship has murdered more than 36,000 people<\/a> in the brutal wave of repression against the mass protests in that country in favor of freedom and democracy. <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/UNWatch\/status\/2021703792505303380\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Yesterday UN Watch denounced<\/a>: <em>\"The Islamic regime's violent crackdown on civilian protesters is far from over. <strong>Now the regime is reportedly executing patients in hospital beds. The silence of the U.N. is complicity.<\/strong>\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>This complicit attitude of the UN toward the Iranian dictatorship contrasts sharply with its traditionally hostile stance toward the State of Israel<\/strong>, a democratic country that has been fighting for its survival since its founding in 1948 against constant attacks, first from its Arab neighbors, and now from the terrorist groups Hamas, Hezbollah, and Houthis, supported by Iran. <strong>The problem with the UN is its betrayal of its fundamental principles, and specifically the defense of human rights, by admitting dictatorships into its ranks<\/strong> since its inception.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Economist_Democracy_Index\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Economist Democracy Index classifies 60 countries as authoritarian regimes<\/a>: <strong>all of them are members of the UN, an organization with 193 members<\/strong>.
