Since Christmas, Galicia has stoically endured a series of storms with strong winds, rain, and thunderstorms.<\/p>\n

Two weeks ago I showed you here the images of the beaches of Nigr\u00e1n that I recorded during an orange alert on Saturday, January 31st<\/a>, during one of the few breaks we had from that series of storms. Unfortunately, the recent storms have caused damage in this area, which you can see below.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

What you can see here is a selection of a series of 52 photos that I have uploaded to my Flickr account<\/a>. The most damaged area has been the Panj\u00f3n seafront, which you can see above.<\/p>\n

The wooden walkway at the port of Panj\u00f3n is marked with tape indicating it's closed. At first glance, everything appears to be intact...<\/p>\n

...but the waves reached this far, washing away much of the sand that supports the wooden beams that hold up the walkway.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

A huge amount of seaweed was swept by the storms to the northern area of \u200b\u200bPanj\u00f3n beach.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Some buildings were also damaged. Here we see a house with its shutter ripped off and curtains torn by the strong wind.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

The waves reached areas of the Panj\u00f3n seafront promenade that are never reached by high tide, tearing off part of the promenade railing.<\/p>\n

One of the screws that supported the railing of the Panj\u00f3n seafront promenade was bent.<\/p>\n

The southern section of the Panj\u00f3n promenade, near Playa Am\u00e9rica, has been closed off due to damage to the walkway.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Here we can see the inside of the fenced-off area. The waves reached this far, surprisingly, washing away the sand and causing a shower area to collapse.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

The strong waves reached the dune area between Panj\u00f3n and Playa Am\u00e9rica, causing the Mu\u00ed\u00f1os River to overflow and carrying away a large amount of sand.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

The storms were so strong that the waves reached the Civil Protection relief module's hut, taking away part of the sand from its base.<\/p>\n

Ciudad de Vigo street, parallel to the Panj\u00f3n seafront promenade. The road surface was already in poor condition, but the heavy rains of recent weeks have created more cracks and potholes.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

The sea ripped away a wooden walkway that provided access to Panj\u00f3n beach from the promenade. This is what remains of it.<\/p>\n

The wooden footbridge next to the Mu\u00ed\u00f1os River had been in ruins for some time. The recent storms have taken their toll on it.<\/p>\n
