Our society is experiencing cold and dark times in many aspects, something that sometimes threatens to rob us of hope.<\/p>\n
However, despite all the bad things that surround us, goodness continues to shed light and warmth amidst that cold and darkness<\/strong>, sometimes literally speaking. I'm writing these lines in the early hours of the morning after having reviewed the grim situation in my country, Spain, in various media outlets, and without any desire to write about it. In my usual review of media from other countries, I came across a news item in the Ukrainian newspaper Kyiv Post<\/strong> which rekindled my desire to write: \"Poles Give Millions to Stop Ukrainians Freezing Under Russian Barrage.\"<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n Vladimir Putin's dictatorship has been attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure for months. Unable to win on the battlefield, the Kremlin is attempting to freeze the Ukrainian people to death<\/strong> in a terrorist campaign designed to exploit the country's severe cold wave for criminal gain. Since the beginning of this invasion, Poland has been one of the European countries that has provided the most assistance to Ukraine<\/strong>, not only by hosting millions of Ukrainian refugees on its own soil (an admirable act), but also by sending substantial humanitarian and military aid to help Ukrainians resist the invaders.<\/p>\n The Kyiv Post notes that \"the Polish public has provided over 16 million zloty (\u20ac3.8 mln) this year to help Ukrainians stay warm<\/strong> as Russian attacks on energy infrastructure left millions without electricity amid freezing temperatures.\"<\/em> Of that amount, 10.3 million zlotys (2.4 million euros) have been raised by<\/strong> the \"Ciep\u0142o z Polski dla Kijowa\"<\/a> (Warmth from Poland for Kyiv) campaign.<\/p>\n
