Most of the projectiles were shot down by the Ukrainian Air Force, but some hit their targets. <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/StratcomCentre\/status\/2036463036509127099\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SPRAVDI released a video of the attack on the monastery<\/a> in which it is clearly visible that <strong>the religious building was hit by a Shahed-type drone, a type of suicide drone supplied by Iran to Russia:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-media-max-width=\"665\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">While Russians spend hundreds of millions a year attempting to convince the world that they are a &quot;Christian nation&quot;, churches remain a constant target all across Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Russians struck the 17th-century St. Andrew\u2019s Church, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Lviv. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/POtaauB3EJ\">pic.twitter.com\/POtaauB3EJ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; SPRAVDI \u2014 Stratcom Centre (@StratcomCentre) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StratcomCentre\/status\/2036463036509127099?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 24, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The Ukrainian Foreign Minister, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/andrii_sybiha\/status\/2036469875908935993\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andrii Sybiha, demanded a response from the Director-General of UNESCO regarding this attack<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/UNESCO\/status\/2036736166007820489\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Unesco's response arrived yesterday morning<\/a>, publishing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unesco.org\/en\/articles\/unesco-alarmed-strikes-lviv-world-heritage-site\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a brief statement<\/a> which states the following:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\"<strong>UNESCO alarmed by strikes on Lviv World Heritage Site<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>UNESCO is deeply alarmed by the 24 March strikes that hit a building in the area of Bernardine Monastery<\/strong> within the World Heritage property of \u2018L\u2019viv \u2013 the Ensemble of the Historic Centre\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>25 March 2026<\/p>\n<p>UNESCO recalls that cultural property is protected under the 1954 Hague Convention and the 1972 World Heritage Convention. <strong>All parties must safeguard heritage and refrain from any acts harming cultural property.<\/strong> UNESCO stands ready to support the authorities with assessments, protection measures and emergency assistance.\"<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/UNESCO\/status\/2036736166007820489\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">This statement has received a barrage of criticism on Twitter<\/a>, because, as can be seen by reviewing the text, <strong> Unesco does not mention the attacking country, Russia, nor the attacked country, Ukraine, and assumes an equidistant position<\/strong>, reminding \"all parties\" of its obligations, when only Russia is attacking protected artistic property in its war of aggression against Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/U24_gov_ua\/status\/2036879384867397697\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UNITED24, a Ukrainian government channel, criticized the Unesco statement<\/a>, noting the following:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\"We\u2019re deeply alarmed by <strong>UNESCO\u2019s inability to call out the culprits who destroy the cultural property this organization ought to preserve.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Primarily, because <strong>this lack of recognition emboldens russia<\/strong> and increases the chances of this happening again.\"<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The criticism hasn't come only from Ukraine. <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MarcinBosacki\/status\/2036880499784696144\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marcin Bosacki, Poland's Deputy Foreign Minister, commented<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\"<strong>Is it a joke, @UNESCO?
