SPRAVDI \u2014 Stratcom Centre (@StratcomCentre) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StratcomCentre\/status\/2036463036509127099?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 24, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The news of this attack was published by <a href=\"https:\/\/es.euronews.com\/2026\/03\/25\/rusia-ataques-ukrania-con-1000-drones-24-horas\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Euronews<\/a>, British media such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cz90gpyw90wo\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BBC<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/world\/russia-ukraine-war\/article\/russian-drone-attack-bernadine-monastery-lviv-ghq6cjfwf\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Times<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/europe\/ukraine-russia-strikes-spring-offensive-b2944669.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Independent<\/a> and religious news outlets such as <a href=\"https:\/\/catholicreview.org\/russian-drone-strikes-damage-historic-church-monastery-in-lviv-ahead-of-holy-week\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Catholic Review<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/es.zenit.org\/2026\/03\/25\/ataque-ruso-incendia-un-historico-monasterio-catolico-en-leopolis-ucrania\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zenit.org<\/a> (which cited as its news source <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2026\/03\/24\/un-ataque-ruso-incendia-un-historico-monasterio-catolico-en-leopolis-ucrania\/\">the article published by Contando Estrelas<\/a>, in which I cited official and direct sources from Ukraine). <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/ucrania-guerra-rusia-primavera-drones-d4b18a9a122ccaf138e67be778afc54b\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Associated Press agency published these two photos of the fire caused by the Russian attack:<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55177709923_a84516a812_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55177709923_2be1794c24_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55177539876_41b8f65251_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55177539876_34970226a0_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>In Spain, apart from this blog, the news of that attack did not receive much attention.<\/strong> Despite this, it was published by media outlets such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eldebate.com\/internacional\/20260324\/rusia-ataca-centro-historico-leopolis-dana-enclave-protegido-unesco_399818.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">El Debate<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.es\/internacional\/ataque-ruso-centro-leopolis-dana-iglesia-san-20260324175738-nt.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Abc<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.20minutos.es\/viajes\/actualidad\/iglesia-ucrania-rusia-danado-ataques-templo-historico-patrimonio-humanidad_6950429_0.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">20 Minutos<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europapress.es\/internacional\/noticia-rusia-ataca-centro-historico-leopolis-declarado-patrimonio-unesco-dana-iglesia-barroca-20260324184615.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Europa Press<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.religiondigital.org\/mundo\/rusia-golpea-casco-historico-leopolis_1_1447486.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Religi\u00f3n Digital<\/a>. This fact may be surprising, but <strong>this attack was not reported in any other religious news outlet<\/strong>. COPE, the radio station of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, didn't even publish a news item about it on its website.<\/p>\n<p>As for the reactions, <strong>Pedro S\u00e1nchez and his government issued no message of condemnation or rejection of this attack. None.<\/strong> They didn't even mention it. In fact, in the four years of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, <strong>S\u00e1nchez's government has said nothing about<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/03\/27\/russia-has-attacked-nearly-600-christian-churches-in-ukraine-what-propagandists-are-keeping-quiet-about\/\">the nearly 600 Russian attacks on churches in Ukraine<\/a>, a figure published a year ago by the Ukrainian government.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, <strong>no political party with representation in Congress and the Senate said anything about this attack<\/strong>, neither to condemn it nor even to comment on it. <strong>Not one.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Similarly, <strong>no Catholic association has said anything about it. None.<\/strong> Nor have there been any comments from associations and platforms that usually defend Catholics from attacks both inside and outside of Spain.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, after much searching, <strong>I haven't found a single message from any Spanish bishop condemning that attack. Not one.<\/strong> Some bishops do comment on Israel, but almost none mention the Russian attacks on religious buildings, which now number in the hundreds, all documented by the Ukrainian government.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A few days ago, when I saw this almost total absence of reactions, I thought that perhaps it was because the attack occurred in another country<\/strong>, specifically in a city almost 2,400 km from Madrid. However, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2026\/03\/30\/the-latin-patriarch-of-jerusalem-issued-an-important-clarification-regarding-his-criticism-of-the-israeli-police\/\">yesterday's incident between the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem and the Israeli Police<\/a>, an incident in which there was no violence, <strong>has generated a great deal of reaction in Spain among people who never say anything about Russian attacks on churches in Ukraine<\/strong>, including S\u00e1nchez and his government, but also many Catholics who seem to have their eyes wide open to anything Israel does and very closed to anything Russia does.<\/p>\n<p>Jerusalem is almost 3,600 km from Madrid, but apparently, <strong>a misunderstanding in Israel has far more repercussions in Spain than a Russian attack on a Catholic monastery in Ukraine<\/strong>. An attack that isn't even an isolated incident: I repeat, there have been hundreds of attacks like it. <strong>This should give us pause for thought about what's happening in this country.<\/strong> A country where many people are hypersensitive to anything that mentions Israel, coincidentally the only Jewish state in the world.
