It must also be made invisible to thermal imaging, infrared, and radar systems. <strong>Multispectral camouflage attempts to offer an integrated solution that renders military forces invisible<\/strong> to both the naked eye and these detection systems.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55204662567_28b4538f5d_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55204662567_dac2764381_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In November 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/armasuisse_armasuisse-msts-activity-7394011081859289088-NF65\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Swiss Federal Office of Armaments (Armasuisse) announced contracts for multispectral camouflage systems with three companies<\/a>: SSZ Camouflage Technology AG (Switzerland), Saro GmbH \u2013 Ghosthood (Germany), and Saab (Sweden).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55204662537_cda8a79b09_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55204662537_20bfa0635e_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Armasuisse has released this image (below) of three of the multispectral camouflage schemes tested<\/strong> (click on the image to enlarge it). In all three cases, the vehicles are <strong>MOWAG Eagle V 6x6 armored reconnaissance vehicles<\/strong> (the Swiss Army has acquired 100 units of this Swiss-made model, and they are currently being delivered). <strong>On the left, we see the Saab Barracuda system, in the center the Saro GmbH Ghostwood, and on the right the SSZ camouflage.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55205956635_aea115c908_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55205956635_b521e6fcf7_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ghostwood's camouflage (below) looks especially good.<\/strong> It's more disruptive than the other two, better disguising the MOWAG Eagle V's shape and thus making it harder to detect.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55204662552_91f7701e6f_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55204662552_4a675997dd_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The contracts include <em>\"<strong>14 lots which are allocated to the most suitable supplier in each instance based on the technical requirements.<\/strong> The camouflage and subterfuge systems tested reduce optical, infrared and radar-based signatures (the response of an object to electromagnetic waves).\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55204679617_2268cccb43_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55204679617_1224e7806f_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Armasuisse justified this program as follows: <em>\"<strong>Multispectral camouflage is an effective method of achieving an optimal camouflage effect that provides protection against the latest reconnaissance equipment.<\/strong> Today, reconnaissance activities are no longer limited to the capabilities of the human eye \u2013 <strong>ground-based and airborne sensors, such as drones, can record visual and infrared signals in the short-, medium- and longwave ranges on the electromagnetic spectrum.<\/strong> The multispectral camouflage system (MSTS) also helps to protect soldiers and infrastructure against enemy reconnaissance.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Im Visier moderner Aufkl\u00e4rung: Erprobung neuer Tarnsysteme\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JXY_43sD0Ak?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ar.admin.ch\/de\/moderne-tarnung-im-praxistest\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Armasuisse<\/a> published this video about the tests carried out with these multispectral camouflage systems, noting the following: <em>\"<strong>In the summer of 2025, armasuisse tested the MSTS (Mobile Tactical Systems) for two weeks in the Thun and Bure training areas.<\/strong> The aim was to examine their effectiveness under real-world conditions and evaluate their operational benefits. <strong>Previously, armasuisse's Science and Technology department had tested the systems in the laboratory.<\/strong> Based on these results, the project team selected suitable suppliers for testing. Together with the Operations Command, the Air Force, the Army, the Army General Staff, and the Logistics Base, <strong>experts tested the systems from a technical, operational, and logistics.<\/strong>\" <\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55205564251_ff9f69503c_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55205564251_260fcf47d6_c.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A curious detail from the video published by Armasuisse is that <strong>these camouflage patterns have also been tested on horses<\/strong>. The last cavalry units of the Swiss Army were disbanded in 1972.
