{"id":64535,"date":"2026-04-16T19:23:03","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T17:23:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/?p=64535"},"modified":"2026-04-18T19:39:43","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T17:39:43","slug":"yolanda-diaz-five-embarrassing-minutes-avoiding-any-criticism-of-the-chinese-dictatorship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2026\/04\/16\/yolanda-diaz-five-embarrassing-minutes-avoiding-any-criticism-of-the-chinese-dictatorship\/","title":{"rendered":"Yolanda D\u00edaz: five embarrassing minutes avoiding any criticism of the Chinese dictatorship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The communist vice president of the Spanish government, Yolanda D\u00edaz, was interviewed this morning by Carlos Alsina on Onda Cero.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2026\/04\/13\/pedro-sanchez-doesnt-call-for-human-rights-in-china-but-he-proposes-a-measure-that-would-weaken-democracies-at-the-un\/\/\">Pedro S\u00e1nchez doesn't call for human rights in China, but he proposes a measure that would weaken democracies at the UN<\/a><\/rel><br \/>\n<rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2026\/04\/09\/an-opaque-operation-to-tie-spain-to-the-worlds-largest-authoritarian-regime\/\">An opaque operation to tie Spain to the world's largest authoritarian regime<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n<p>At the end of the interview, <strong>Alsina asked D\u00edaz: \u201cAre human rights respected in China?\u201d<\/strong> It is a very simple question, and anyone even minimally informed would answer with a resounding \u201cNO.\u201d <strong>For five awkward minutes, D\u00edaz avoided answering, trying to change the subject<\/strong> (he started talking about Israel and the United States) and appealing to the UN, perhaps forgetting that in 2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/unric.org\/es\/china-uigures-derechos-humanos\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the United Nations documented \u201cserious human rights violations\u201d in China<\/a>, specifically in the province of Xinjiang against the Uyghurs.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/heMVmlRdCSk?si=Da5fhho75OjNGktD&amp;start=1618\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here you can watch the video of the interview<\/strong> (it\u2019s in Spanish; you can enable automatic Spanish subtitles in the bottom bar of the player). The question about Communist China comes at the 26:58 mark; I\u2019ve set the video to start playing at that point. One of the vice president\u2019s most astonishing statements is that <strong>she acknowledged that \u201cChina does not have a multiparty system,\u201d a crude euphemism to avoid saying that it is a one-party dictatorship<\/strong>, where there have never been free elections and where any criticism of the government leads to persecution, imprisonment, torture, and even the execution of dissidents.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, <strong>Spain has a government that has no qualms about leveling the harshest criticism against democratic countries such as the United States and Israel<\/strong>, a country that the S\u00e1nchez government has repeatedly accused of \u201cgenocide\u201d without any condemnation of those crimes against the Israeli government. <strong>However, when it comes to the Chinese dictatorship, the S\u00e1nchez government falls silent<\/strong>, simply because today it is Spain\u2019s main international ally\u2014to Spain\u2019s shame.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the appointment of the second vice president of the government comes as no surprise. <strong>For many years, Yolanda D\u00edaz has been a member of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE)<\/strong>, a party that has shown its support for dictatorships such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pce.es\/bielorrusia-la-trampa-de-otro-maidan\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Belarus<\/a>, <a href=\"\/\/www.pce.es\/70-anos-con-la-republica-popular-china-por-la-paz-la-libertad-el-progreso-y-el-socialismo\/\u201d\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">China<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pce.es\/exigimos-la-expulsion -from-the-us-ambassador-regarding-the-raid-on-the-dprk-embassy\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">North Korea<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pce.es\/basta-de-amenazas-y-sanciones-contra-el-pueblo-de-iran -we-must-stop-the-war\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Iran<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pce.es\/celebramos-la-retirada-de-eeuu-de-siria-nuevo-triunfo-del-pueblo-sirio\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Syria<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pce.es\/a-los-50-anos-de-la-victoria-de-abril-y-los-95-anos-del-partido-comunista-de-vietnam\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vietnam<\/a>, and that four years ago <a href= \u201chttps:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2022\/04\/18\/el-bochornoso-manifiesto-del-pce-que-repite-bulos-y-consignas-del-kremlin-sobre-ucrania\/\">published a manifesto repeating the Kremlin\u2019s lies and slogans about Ukraine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As I have been pointing out for some time, <strong>Spain is the only country in the European Union that has communists in its government.<\/strong> This leads to such embarrassing incidents as those five minutes during which Yolanda D\u00edaz avoided any criticism of a dictatorship like China, a one-party regime that systematically violates human rights. <strong>The S\u00e1nchez government is an anomaly among European democracies<\/strong>; it is a government that feels closer to a totalitarian regime like communist China than to a consolidated democracy like the United States. <\/p>\n<p>In fact, <strong>the so-called \"democratic memory\" that S\u00e1nchez proclaims implies a total amnesty for communist crimes<\/strong>, as we already saw five years ago when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2021\/03\/26\/spanish-parliament-refuses-to-condemn-the-crimes-of-nazism-and-communism\/\">S\u00e1nchez and his allies voted against the European condemnation of the crimes of communism and nazism<\/a>, simply because they refused to condemn communist crimes. In this sense, <strong>what is clear is that S\u00e1nchez's repeated rejection of the Franco regime is not because it was a dictatorship<\/strong> (China is also a dictatorship and the current Spanish government refuses to call it that, just as it does with other dictatorships like Cuba and Venezuela), <strong>but because it was not a left-wing dictatorship<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2023\/12\/19\/the-antidemocratic-attitude-of-historical-socialists-whom-the-psoe-still-claims\/\">the type of dictatorship that historical leaders of the PSOE openly defended<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>---<\/p>\n<p><small>Photo: Europa Press.
