{"id":64751,"date":"2026-04-29T21:29:38","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T19:29:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/?p=64751"},"modified":"2026-05-06T20:52:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T18:52:20","slug":"spanish-naval-police-and-united-states-nsf-in-a-dog-training-exercise-in-rota","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2026\/04\/29\/spanish-naval-police-and-united-states-nsf-in-a-dog-training-exercise-in-rota\/","title":{"rendered":"Spanish Naval Police and United States NSF in a dog training exercise in Rota"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Rota Naval Base, in Cadiz (Spain), is a joint base used by the Spanish Navy and the United States Navy.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/03\/28\/a-terrorist-attack-exercise-by-the-american-military-police-at-the-spanish-base-of-rota\/\">A terrorist attack exercise by the American Military Police at the Spanish base of Rota<\/a><\/rel><br \/>\n<rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2023\/03\/29\/the-vehicles-of-the-us-military-police-guarding-the-spanish-naval-base-in-rota\/\">The vehicles of the US Military Police guarding the Spanish naval base in Rota<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n<p>Since it is a base located in Spanish territory, the external surveillance of the base is the exclusive responsibility of the Spanish Navy, but due to this bilateral nature, <strong>the internal surveillance of the base corresponds jointly to the Naval Police of the Spanish Navy and the US Navy Security Forces (NSF)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55238981183_8e75f887b2_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55238981183_c40d3f0b98_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>These security tasks are carried out 24 hours a day and provide protection to some 4,000 people<\/strong>, including the military personnel stationed at that base and the families who have their residences there, both Spanish and American, as well as <strong>the various facilities of the base: the port, the runway and air platform<\/strong>, the buildings and also the civilian facilities associated with the residential area.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55237928647_924c2cc93d_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55237928647_d24835abb7_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As a curiosity, <a href=\"https:\/\/cnreurafcent.cnic.navy.mil\/Installations\/NAVSTA-Rota\/Operations-and-Management\/Security\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">inside the base, American personnel can call their security service by dialing 911<\/a>, which is the number used in the United States to call the police. As we saw last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/03\/28\/a-terrorist-attack-exercise-by-the-american-military-police-at-the-spanish-base-of-rota\/\">the US Navy Security Forces in Rota have their own vehicles<\/a>, <strong>equipped with license plates similar to Spanish ones but with their own code<\/strong>, so they can only circulate within that base. These vehicles are identified with signs bearing the text \"Military Police\".<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55239242835_24d9412990_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55239242835_a0212db1ed_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Both the Spanish Naval Police and the US National Security Force (NSF) have dogs to assist them in their work at Rota.<\/strong> Recently, both security agencies conducted a joint exercise at that base in mid-April. The US Armed Forces' multimedia portal, DVIDShub.net, has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dvidshub.net\/image\/9634439\/us-navy-mwd-bilateral-exercise\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a series of photos of that exercise<\/a>, which you can see here. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/USNavalStationRota\/posts\/pfbid02NttVr1j1HApP9EJrA8pw1XtLEsveppThqXJ5wLU56AW3WkZxfaeMLpuAEPrTrDkBl\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Naval Station Rota Facebook page<\/a>, edited by the US Navy, has published some more photos which I include with these lines.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55239242845_db92868469_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55239242845_b723bc5d79_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>\"<strong>Naval Station Rota\u2019s Security Department participated in a bilateral military working dog training event with their counterparts in the Armada last week<\/strong>,\"<\/em> the Facebook page states. <em>\"This training, conducted in collaboration with our Spanish allies, <strong>strengthens our joint capabilities and improves interoperability, especially with regard to the security of the entire base.<\/strong>\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55239242910_6af1e31c6a_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55239242910_fa1343721e_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The US Navy adds: <em>\"<strong>Security is one of the six lines of operation of Naval Station Rota<\/strong> that maintains the installation\u2019s readiness to sustain the fleet, enable the warfighter, and support the family.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55238981203_de9f100026_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55238981203_6b0a1776dd_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the images, we see <strong>members of the Spanish Naval Police wearing M09 arid pixelated camouflage uniforms<\/strong>. Interestingly, one of them has a patch on his left arm with the emblem of the Madrid Marine Infantry Group (AGRUMAD), while the female officer with him has a patch of the Tercio de Levante (TERLEV). <strong>Members of the US Navy's National Security Force (NSF) wear uniforms with<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2020\/01\/27\/dos-pruebas-sobre-la-eficacia-del-aor-2-el-patron-de-camuflaje-de-la-armada-de-eeuu\/\">AOR2 pixelated camouflage<\/a>. In both cases, the officers wear black plate carriers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55239076739_aea18d5e64_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55239076739_6a41ae5cb4_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Regarding weaponry, the photos show that <strong>the Spanish Naval Police members were carrying Heckler & Koch G-36E assault rifles (5.56 x 45 NATO caliber) and Heckler & Koch USP pistols (9 x 19 Parabellum)<\/strong>, which are the standard-issue sidearms of the Spanish Armed Forces. Meanwhile, <strong>the US Navy NSF members were carrying SIG Sauer M17 pistols (9 x 19 Parabellum)<\/strong> with a coyote brown finish, the standard model of the US Armed Forces.
