After that summit, US Secretary of State <a href=\"https:\/\/www.taipeitimes.com\/News\/front\/archives\/2026\/05\/15\/2003857362\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marco Rubio asserted that his country's position on Taiwan had not changed<\/a>. On this policy, four years ago I wrote here that during his first term <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2022\/08\/03\/taiwan-the-effects-of-one-of-the-worst-decisions-of-the-us-foreign-policy\/\">Trump promoted a rapprochement with the Republic of China (Taiwan) that continued during Joe Biden's term<\/a>, a correct course to avoid the serious mistake made by Jimmy Carter in 1979 when he decided to break with Taiwan and get closer to communist China.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"BREAKING: Trump addresses Xi&#039;s WARNING over Taiwan\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7ib2ab_kDLI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>After his meeting with Xi Jinping, <strong>Trump gave an interview to Fox News<\/strong> (you can watch it above) in which <strong>he said things about Taiwan such as that the Chinese <em>\"don't want to see to see it go independent\"<\/em><\/strong> (Taiwan has been an independent country since 1949, although the Beijing dictatorship pretends not to know this) <strong>and said that Taiwan wants to become independent because it has the support of the United States<\/strong>, to which Trump warned: <em>\"China is a very, very powerful and big country. That\u2019s a very small island. Think about it; it's 59 miles away. <strong>We're 9,500 miles away. That\u2019s a little bit of a difficult problem.<\/strong>\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p>These words from Trump already made clear a change of attitude regarding Taiwan, but the US president made it even clearer when he added: <em>\"If you look at the history of Taiwan, <strong>Taiwan was developed because we had presidents that didn\u2019t know what the hell they were doing<\/strong>,\"<\/em> and finally added the following statement against that country, which is an ally of the United States: <em>\"<strong>They stole our chip industry.<\/strong>\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>We are seeing something very similar to what already happened between Trump and Putin:<\/strong> after boasting of strength and wanting to make America great again, <strong>the President of the United States visited the Russian dictator and ended up giving in to his demands and betraying Ukraine<\/strong>, doing a great favor to America's main strategic enemy in Europe. <strong>Now Trump is doing the same with communist China and free China (Taiwan).<\/strong> This is not making America great again.
