The aircraft are distributed among four squadrons in Wing 11 (Mor\u00f3n, Squadrons 111 and 113, the latter dedicated to conversion training) and in Wing 14 (Albacete, Squadrons 141 and 142). <strong>The Spanish Eurofighter fleet consists of aircraft from Tranche 1<\/strong> (19 aircraft received), <strong>Tranche 2<\/strong> (34) <strong>and Tranche 3<\/strong> (20).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55306946792_955240c2cd_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55306946792_2b4f9db961_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Spain is awaiting a total of 45 Eurofighters, divided into two programs: the Halc\u00f3n I program, signed in 2022<\/strong>, will consist of 20 aircraft (16 single-seaters and 4 two-seaters) to replace the EF-18 Hornets of Wing 46, based at Gando (Canary Islands),<strong> while the Halc\u00f3n II program will consist of 25 aircraft<\/strong> (21 single-seaters and 4 two-seaters) to replace the older EF-18s based at Torrej\u00f3n (Wing 12) and Zaragoza (Wing 15). <strong>These 45 new Eurofighters will be Tranche 4<\/strong>, the most advanced version of this aircraft, and will be equipped with E-Scan active electronically scanned radar.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55308085424_6f814f44d2_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55308085424_ac8baa5046_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The aircraft displayed today by Airbus Defence is a two-seater from the Halc\u00f3n I program.<\/strong> The European company has indicated that the aircraft is now ready for its first engine test and maiden flight. <strong>At the moment, the fighter has not yet been painted<\/strong>, as can be seen in these photos.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55307847706_ac4b2c6bde_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55307847706_fc568a7023_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>A significant detail is that this aircraft does not yet have the EuroFirst PIRATE sensor<\/strong> (Passive Infrared Airborne Track Equipment), as can be seen in these two photos released today by Airbus Defence.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55307847696_3334e1321f_o.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55307847696_8320302ae0_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The PIRATE sensor is a black, ball-shaped infrared search and track (IRST) sight<\/strong> mounted on the left side of the aircraft's cockpit. This system detects the enemy aircraft's thermal signature, including both the heat emitted by its engines and the air resistance generated by its fuselage, <strong>allowing it to locate stealth aircraft<\/strong> and giving the Eurofighter a considerable advantage. <strong>Its range is a closely guarded secret.<\/strong> Some sources indicate it can locate targets at a distance of up to 167 km, depending on weather conditions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55307847751_4359f21a64_o.png\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55307847751_1e12988d9e_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>This sensor is manufactured by the EuroFIRST consortium<\/strong>, made up of three European companies: Tecnobit (Spain), Leonardo SpA (Italy, which is the consortium's director), and Thales Land & Joint Systems (United Kingdom). <strong>The PIRATE has a highly sensitive optical viewfinder, so its installation and calibration are carried out after the aircraft has been painted<\/strong> to prevent substances used in the painting process from affecting or damaging the sensor.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55308085434_297020781e_o.png\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55308085434_afaffe1abf_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the end of 2025, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force (JEMA), Air General Francisco Braco Carb\u00f3, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.infodefensa.com\/texto-diario\/mostrar\/5690052\/tres-primeros-cazas-eurofighter-programa-halcon-llegaran-2026-ala-14-base-aerea-albacete\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">indicated<\/a> that <strong>the delivery of the first three Eurofighters of the Halc\u00f3n I program was planned for the beginning of this year<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/fly-news.es\/defensa-industria\/comienza-la-retirada-de-los-f-18-de-canarias\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The withdrawal of the EF-18s from Wing 46 began in July 2023<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.infodefensa.com\/texto-diario\/mostrar\/5718067\/ejercito-aire-espanol-opera-eurofighter-desde-canarias-primeros-servicios-alerta-cazas-ala-11\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">At the end of 2025, Eurofighters from Wing 11 began arriving at Gando<\/a> to take over the early warning service missions of Wing 46.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\" style=\"margin:20px 0 20px 0;\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-media-max-width=\"560\">\n<p lang=\"zxx\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/AtodS8J8gz\">pic.twitter.com\/AtodS8J8gz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash;
