{"id":65501,"date":"2026-06-15T21:42:31","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T19:42:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/?p=65501"},"modified":"2026-06-15T21:53:31","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T19:53:31","slug":"the-uro-vamtac-ax4-a-spanish-mrap-armored-vehicle-presented-in-paris","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2026\/06\/15\/the-uro-vamtac-ax4-a-spanish-mrap-armored-vehicle-presented-in-paris\/","title":{"rendered":"The URO VAMTAC AX4, a Spanish MRAP armored vehicle presented in Paris"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Spanish company Urovesa, based in Valga (Pontevedra), has today presented a new variant of its successful VAMTAC.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2026\/06\/07\/the-special-vamtacs-of-the-ezapac-of-the-spanish-air-force-seen-up-close\/\">The special VAMTACs of the EZAPAC of the Spanish Air Force seen up close<\/a><\/rel><br \/>\n<rel><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2024\/09\/30\/inside-urovesa-the-company-that-makes-the-vamtacs-of-the-spanish-armed-forces\/\">Inside UROVESA, the company that makes the VAMTACs of the Spanish Armed Forces<\/a><\/rel><\/p>\n<p><strong>The VAMTAC (High Mobility Tactical Vehicle), based on the American Humvee<\/strong>, is a four-wheeled all-terrain military vehicle that was initially launched in 1998 under the name <strong>Rebeco or VAMTAC T3<\/strong>, securing an order for 1,200 units that same year for the Spanish Army. <strong>In 2004, the VAMTAC S3 arrived<\/strong>, initially designated as the T5 (the ambulance version of the \"Galicia\" VII Brigade can be seen below), with 900 units purchased by the Spanish Army.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/7519\/30139246151_f8ee2e87dd_o.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/7519\/30139246151_66dd29f845_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>In 2013, a new and even more successful version of the VAMTAC arrived, the ST5<\/strong> (below we can see the Eimos mortar carrier version of the Marine Corps), with a redesigned hull and more protection, reaching BN3 armor levels. <strong>In May 2013, Spain acquired 772 units for its Armed Forces<\/strong>, with a second order for 663 more in 2020.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55295474378_122b7314a0_o.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55295474378_ce52e2f57c_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The VAMTAC is currently used by civilian and military customers in more than 20 countries<\/strong>. It has come a long way, literally speaking, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2024\/11\/22\/ukraine-shows-its-spanish-vamtacs-and-new-zealand-buys-this-military-vehicle\/\">being used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces<\/a> against the Russian invaders (demonstrating a great capacity for crew survivability in case of attack) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzdf.mil.nz\/media-centre\/news\/army-and-nzdf-set-to-welcome-new-workhorse-utility-vehicle\/\" target=\"_blank\">being chosen in 2024 by the New Zealand Army<\/a>, in an order for 60 units to replace their Mercedes Unimog and Puch Pinzgauer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53025179166_e89e0fed6c_b.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53025179166_e89e0fed6c_b.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2023\/07\/05\/vamtac-sk-95-closely-reviewing-the-new-artillery-truck-of-the-spanish-army\/\">In 2021 the VAMTAC SK-95 arrived<\/a>, an evolution of the ST5 designed as a light truck, which was acquired by the Spanish Army as an artillery tractor. <strong>The VAMTAC has proven to be a very versatile platform, with more than 60 versions for different uses:<\/strong> armament, anti-tank, command, medical evacuation, communications, troop transport, logistics, mortar carrier, special operations (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2026\/06\/07\/the-special-vamtacs-of-the-ezapac-of-the-spanish-air-force-seen-up-close\/\">the VMOE that we recently analyzed here<\/a> and which we can see below), etc.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55318791638_13eb9836a1_o.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55318791638_fa554fe458_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/urovesa_seguridadydefensa-vamtac-ax4-activity-7467516738667053056-y7JD?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop&rcm=ACoAAAOG5VEB1KzohT6WSvCetR_MeUy8s46xK0g\" target=\"_blank\">A week ago, Urovesa announced a new member of this vehicle family: the VAMTAC AX4<\/a>, <strong>of which it only published this photo<\/strong>, noting that it would be presented at the Eurosatory military exhibition in Paris from June 15 to 19. The Galician company stated that <strong>the new vehicle has a payload of 4 tons, can transport up to 11 crew members, and has a high level of armor.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55337045271_1c2759e302_o.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55337045271_3c4ca1e5cd_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>\"<strong>This platform, designed in a modular, scalable way with an open architecture, can be configured for various missions in addition to platoon transport<\/strong>,\"<\/em> Urovesa stated in a press release. The company defines the AX4 as <em>\"<strong>an agile all-terrain vehicle with mechanical systems that provide high mobility and all-wheel drive capabilities<\/strong>, designed to transport both people and cargo in challenging climatic and topographical environments, guaranteeing its employability and deployment capacity in any area of \u200b\u200boperations.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Urovesa also announced that the AX4 <em>\"<strong>offers high levels of protection, thanks to a design based on combined armor materials, both ballistic and against mines and IEDs<\/strong> (Improvised Explosive Devices), all without neglecting fundamental aspects such as ergonomics and comfort for its occupants, and great stability and mobility, requirements difficult to combine in heavily armored vehicles.\"<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55337045291_6bc6e98cf7_o.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55337045291_6e9056c6c0_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/urovesa_arranca-una-nueva-edici%C3%B3n-de-la-feria-%F0%9D%97%98-activity-7472205288574484482-HxzU?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop&rcm=ACoAAAOG5VEB1KzohT6WSvCetR_MeUy8s46xK0g\" target=\"_blank\">Finally, today Urovesa unveiled the VAMTAC AX4 on its LinkedIn channel<\/a>, publishing these two photos. The first corresponds to Urovesa's exhibit at the Eurosatory trade fair in Paris, specifically Stand F210 in Hall 6. <strong>The AX4 is an MRAP vehicle<\/strong>, meaning it has a hull designed to withstand landmines and improvised explosive devices. <strong>Its features include side armor plates and a prominent engine compartment, as well as a Guardian 2.0 remotely armed turret<\/strong> equipped with a 7.62 mm FN MAG machine gun and 12 smoke grenade launchers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55337460770_3458178851_o.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55337460770_ed02af1a57_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Urovesa has also published this photo of a VAMTAC AX4 at its Valga factory<\/strong>, surrounded by employees of this Galician company.
