The terrorist group ETA tried to disrupt the transition to democracy in Spain with a large wave of assassinations between 1978 and 1980.<\/p>\n
During those three years, ETA perpetrated 244 murders<\/strong> (66 in 1978, 80 in 1979, and 98 in 1980), representing 28.6% of the 853 people murdered by ETA throughout its criminal history. This period of the transition to democracy in Spain is known as \"the years of lead\" because of this and also because of the terrorist activity of other far-left criminal groups, especially the communist GRAPO.<\/strong><\/p>\n In 1980, ETA supporters used that slogan to disrupt a demonstration against that criminal gang.<\/big><\/p>\n Most of the victims of that assassination campaign were Civil Guards, police officers, and soldiers, but ETA also directed its criminal activity against politicians, journalists, and members of other professions.<\/strong> An example of this occurred on August 22, 1980, when two ETA terrorists shot Jos\u00e9 Javier Uranga, the director of the conservative newspaper Diario de Navarra, in Cordovilla.<\/a> He miraculously survived the attack after being shot 25 times. It took him a year to recover from his injuries.<\/p>\n On September 2, 1980, a demonstration against terrorism was held in Pamplona<\/strong>, \u200b\u200bwhich was supported by elected officials from democratic parties. More than 40,000 people attended the demonstration. ETA supporters tried to disrupt the march by causing incidents, shouting in favor of the terrorist group, and<\/stron> chanting the slogan \"You fascists are the terrorists,\"<\/a> a slogan already being used at that time by the Basque separatist far left to support ETA and defame those who were demonstrating against this murderous group.<\/p>\n A slogan used to demand that business owners pay ETA extortion money<\/big><\/p>\n That chant continued to be used by ETA supporters for many years<\/strong>, with the dual purpose of implying that this criminal gang was not terrorist and that the label was reserved for \"fascists,\" a term that ETA and its supporters used against all those who opposed their criminal actions<\/strong>, regardless of their ideology. One \u200b\u200bof the occasions on which ETA supporters used this chant was on December 15, 1996<\/a> in Getxo (Vizcaya), when members of Herri Batasuna (HB), the political wing of this terrorist organization, demonstrated chanting this chant to demand that Basque business owners pay the extortion money demanded by ETA<\/strong>. They did it in the town of the Biscayan lawyer Cosme Delclaux, who was kidnapped on November 11 of that year and was not released until July 1, 1997.<\/p>\n The socialist \u00d3scar Puente is now using that slogan to attack Ayuso<\/big><\/p>\n Yesterday, the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel D\u00edaz Ayuso, denounced that the S\u00e1nchez government has allowed terrorists to enter Spain<\/a> amidst a level 4 anti-terrorism alert, referring to the migrant incursion into Ceuta. \"S\u00e1nchez is irresponsible and a traitor. Spain's borders must be protected.
